2 baby girls in a midwife-led public hospital - didn't cost a cent. Own birthing room.
Infact we billed them - and got $8k from the govt by return of post (Baby bonus)
Midwifes can lead you through hard times the way your body is designed to do naturally - doctors see it as a medical issue to solve so the incidence of ceasars are higher in private, and they can bill accordingly. There's a different slant in the thinking.
Of course, have to take into account people elect for private because they want a ceasar. Too posh to push? or they may have complications that warrant the consideration or decision.

Or they may be aware that their best friend aged 32 will have life-long fecal incontinence as a result of a mismanaged vaginal delivery.

Here in Australia the system gives women the right the choose which way they 'hope' to give birth. If she is given the correct information regarding risks/benefits of c section vs 'natural' delivery then ultimately it should be up to her.

Too posh to push?! Whoever came up with such a ridiculous phrase? I hate how it has become part of our vocabulary.

Re: Having a baby in Australia has any one had one !!!
I had my first 2 in Scotland and my second 2 here, all 4 were in midwife led public hospitals and IMO here was much better. The anti-natal care and the post natal care were both better (even though i was only there for 24 hours after each delivery) the assistance i had during labour was great. From a financial angle, i didn't have to pay a cent during either pregnancy and even though i had private cover i chose to use the public option.

the small print comment was in answer to the fact that the link, albeit for FTB, also covers the baby bonus
and you are correct, the baby bonus is only for residents, the WHV isn't shown on that list
