Dunno how they managed to miss me when they did that pic, must have been the way I slid down in my seat behind the screens Walked in this morning to find the place full of flipping TV cameras again, but I managed not to star on Channel 7 news this year

1.37am: There are currently 180,000 homes without power in southeast Queensland, with 50,000 reconnected overnight.

Energex has a target of reconnecting another 100,000 by Tuesday night.

There are still 22,000 homes without power on the Gold Coast.

Some affected suburbs are without any lights at all, including street and traffic lights. Others are partially powered.

Check energex.com.au for more detailed information - including restoration estimates - but there is no guaranteed restoration schedule because of the extent of the repair work.

Duh, I am stupid....part of me thought that if you haven't any power, how can you be on your computer?.....oh the joys of laptops/i-pads etc. Shame you can't get one that boils a kettle and makes your tea.

At the library No power since sunday. We had just restocked fridge after trip, $350 worth destroyed.

I am wary of claiming from insurance, first there would be an excess and after making a claim your insurance goes up the next year and up to 5 years after.

I was told by people in the industry 400 energex workers were put off last year. Every bit of tropical rain is a 'flood' but the reality is we are down hundred + crews. Plus it was penalty rates yesterday, did everyone who wanted to work get put on

Our power was off for over 24 hours and has just come back on. Some of our street and the local shopping centre and surrounds are still out. We must just be the lucky ones. Can take the stuff out off ice from the eski's and put them back in the fridges shortly.

Power restored.... after 37 hours.

Car was reading 42C and humidity after the rain must be 99.9999%

Fridge/freezer was a nightmare to sort, 2 black bin bags of food for dump

Luckily we had done the washing by stomping on it in the bathtub so no backlog there.

ahhhh summer

I just read that the council will be putting special bins in some suburbs for spoiled food. I expect there will be a flood disaster payment like last time which should help with recouping the loss of the food.

Just found this link also;

http://www.humanservices.gov.au/cust...s-january-2013

Looks like you are eligible for a payment if you were without power for a continuous period of 48 hours or more (so 37 hours is just a tad too short - bummer).

Thank you for your links, I think another 11 hours and I would have killed someone

I cant stand aussie summer, and surviving it in third world conditions was certainly the icing on the cake.

No doubt I will be eligilble for the upcoming flood levy, increased insurance premiums, taxes.......

On a positive note, at least your house has not washed away, right ?

Check out this stat for Gladstone !!!
"The coastal Queensland city registered 819.8 millimetres of rain in the four days to Sunday, not far shy of its annual average rainfall of 883 millimetres."

I know it's too late for some of you but here's how to keep fridge and freezer going. As soon as you loose power cover as much of the fridge/freezer with the biggest doona (goose down if available) you have, making sure door seals are well protected. Do not open if at all possible. This gives you about 12-24 hours (Qld temps) to find a generator. Use generator for a few hours (remove doona). Replace doona as soon as power disconnected and it will easily stay cold overnight.

It works. I learnt from experience.

That takes all our 2kw of generator to do that! Have to disconnect fridge before using kettle or it cuts out.
