We had our electricity go off for over 24 hours a couple of years ago. Etsa had to pay everyone compensation. It was different depending on how long. We got something like $320. They had three months to pay it, and funnily enough, it took them exactly that, not a day sooner. They paid it automatically to the person who's name the electricity account was in.
I'm guessing this will also apply to you.

Last lot of floods (Jan 2011) the government gave everyone who had lost power/water for 48 hours plus some cash to cover loss of food etc. I don't think Energex can be responsible for natural disasters.

Hope it comes back on fast for you.

I had 2 mins worth an hour ago but nothing since ...

Can't even get the net on me phone at home as local tower must be on the wonk too. I've had to pop out in the car to charge phones and check mail etc

Much of north Queensland has had no power, internet or phones for almost 24 hours after Telstra lost a major fibre-optic cable last night. Gradually coming back online now.
Power has been out for longer than normal in the south because the wind made it too dangerous for crews to work.

It might pay to have a look at your home and contents insurance policy to see if you are covered for spoilage.
