Have points went up then down again in the past???

Sorry to be a bore, but have points gone up in the past only to go back down again (I live in hope). Also does 1 July have any bearing on the recent increase in points from 110 to 115. I understand that from 1 July more places are available for migrants, (although I am just clutching at straws).

Thankyou again for all your advice, Carol.

Yes. Under the old (pre July 1999) system the points went up to 115 in August 1996:

only to drop back to 110 in March 1998.

The points score under the old system is not directly comparable to the new one.

At the tail end of the old system in March 1999, points dropped to 105, again old
system. http://www.minister.immi.gov.au/medi...a99/r99062.htm

The 1 July increase in the number of visas is not really relevant, as the increase to
115 takes account of the extra visas. If there had been no extra visas at all the
pass mark would have had to go higher, or the points test more extensively changed.

We would only see a reduction in the pass mark if demand for visas dropped.

It's really a personal decision as to whether to apply or not with 110 points. Like
the lottery, you've got to be in it to win it, except that the cost of a ticket is a
lot higher. If you did apply, I would actively try to get a state/territory regional
nomination, but so far these have not taken up a large number of applicants.
