has anyone obtaining australian citizenship after 2 year stay
has anyone obtaining australian citizenship after 2 year stay? How is your life in Australia?

Re: has anyone obtaining australian citizenship after 2 year stay
We got our citizenship straightaway after our 2 years full time permanent residency. Life is good here. To be eligible for citizenship now, you must have lived here for 4 years, as the citizenship eligibility laws have changed since late this year.

Depends if you had validated before 30th June this year. Anyone who validated or moved here before that will still be eligible after 2 years so long as they apply before 30th June 2010, otherwise it's the new 4 year rule :) |

steandleigh, which part you staying? I am planning to go over mid jan 2008 before visa expiring.
I want to continue playing Ice Hockey. Just curious, but if you can't play ice hockey would you let your visa expire? Have a word with the Canadians on here, they may know something about ice hockey - there's Dorothy and Comet555 :) http://britishexpats.com/forum/member.php?u=51036 http://britishexpats.com/forum/member.php?u=47522 |

We had our interview a while back, at the end of October i think, everything was ok, but we have still not heard about the ceremony yet, the man at the post office said it should be Australia day, we live in Brisbane, how long should we know beforehand

I know Comet & Mr Comet play hockey over in Brisbane. There is hockey in Adelaide, I've seen the arena on down by my old work. I'm sure there is in Perth, too, but neither Ron nor I play hockey. He hates sports and I stopped playing hockey when I was about 14.
There's also an arena in Warners Bay by Newcastle. There's a couple in and around sydney I think. Melbourne has one, Perth has two I think, and Adelaide has one as well. There is a list of rinks floating about but I can't seem to find it at the moment. I'll have a look though. There are lots of times for public skating too, so you can still skate even if you don't want to play on a team. As for the citizenship thing. We were also one of the lucky ones who arrived before the new rules came into effect. So we should be eligible for citizenship in another year and a half. |
