Melbourne
Blue Mountains
Noosa
Coffs Harbour
Arkons farm
The coast road up past Hutch on the way to Sydney is supposed to be nice.

Hi Suzy,

Depends on what you want to see and do and how long you want to take getting there. We just wanted to get here the quickest way so went through Ouyen (???) Dubbo, Moree then Goodniwindi and onto the Gold Coast. Done it in three night stop overs so kids didnt winge and also so we just drove through the day....9.30am starts etc it was no where near as bad as we thought.

PM if you need any more info on where we stopped etc and I will be happy to help
Marie

Hi, we did this trip 3 years ago, left Adelaide and had 2 weeks to Sydney and then 1 week up to Brissy.
Our route was as follows if i can remember all the places at which we stopped overnight.
Adelaide, Robe, Peterbough, Apollo bay( loved it), Melbourne(mmm), Lakes entrance and the wonderful 90 mile beach, Eden, Sydney, Taree, Gosford, Coffs harbour(lovely), Byron bay( not so lovely) Brisbane.
Got to see a hell of a lot and really enjoyed the driving( campervan) we also done the Great ocean road on route.
All the campsites were very good, the best one at Coffs harbour. In Peterbourgh we were joined by a gang of Hells angels from the West coast who happily showed us their bikes( Harleys) and came and apologised if they made to much noise and kept my 4 year old daughter awake, bloody hell they had packed up and gone to bed by 10.30pm.
All in all a wonderful trip!

Simon:)

If you want the quickest route go up via Broken Hill - quickest by far & you will see countryside that most brits will never even lay their eyes on. Make sure you get out on the road the second day before sunrise - it's the most magnificent sight you will ever see :) .

If you keep at it you can do Adelaide/Brisbane in 2 days easily (around 21hrs driving time) with a stopover in Cobar (that's about half way).

On our way to Sydney this year we met a family who drive to the Gold Coast every Christmas, they do it with 2 stopovers at Hay and Tamworth.

Hi Suzy

I did this drive with my now husband about 10 years ago. We drove from Brisbane to Adelaide along the coast but going back wanted to get back quickly so went inland. We didnt go via Broken Hill, rather went the road that goes through Mildura, stopped in a place called West Wyalong for the night then carried on to Dubbo to see the zoo and then I think we stopped in Moree as well ( I remember a spectacularly bad Chinese meal).

Think we did it in 3 days, but it was LOTS of driving.

Hope this helps!

Yes, Hubby and eldest son did it two years ago next week as we'd decided to escape. Got his route from a coach driver, two days, warned NOT to drive at night cause the Roo's will crush your car!!!!!

Re: Has anyone driven from Adelaide to Queensland?

Yes we have just done it sold up in Adelaide and now living in Noosa. We have 2 young kids and made the journey a bit of a holiday. Stopovers in Bendigo , Goulburn,Hallidays Point(NSW), Nambucca Heads, made a bit of a holiday of it but were still driving between 7.5 and 5.5 hours a day. The scenery is so much better once you hit the East Coast. the drive was much eaisier than i imagined the roads were excellent and traffic was at a minimum until you hit the poupulated areas. The Sat Nav was worth every cent and would highly recommend to anyone contemplating the trip.
