Not only do my taxes keep Kiwipaul under worked 1 in 3 cannot even be bothered with a goverment job , so given 1 in 2 work for the state or federal goverments that means 33% keep 66% out of their taxes.

What are you suggesting - that we let the underprivileged starve to death and sleep in the street ? Opportunity and education is what is needed; not depriving people of financial assistance.

The 'one in three' figure is nothing unusual. It's the same in the UK - as explained here

A rich economy like the UK has cash to burn to keep the useless not so Australia , high taxes here prove its time to cut down immo's and give the locals a chance to earn a crust.

UK the land of plenty too right no help like this here for old buggers.

About 5m will be paid the new pensioners' tax credit, compared with 1.7m claiming income support, which it replaces.

Preliminary estimates are that somewhere near 13m adults will soon receive benefits, including the new tax credits invented by Mr Brown. The total adult population is 47m. Another 11m claim the state pension.

What you will realise after you have been here more than a few months is even the Government has the Welfare Dependant issue high on its agenda, and the fact that benefits for non workers with families often exceed the real income of people working and its associated costs.

Wait till you get kids and go through childcare centres here, 99% are claiming some welfare assistance to pay for childcare but only 60% were even working, figures from friends who own centre just outside of Brisbane. Hopefully when you get a job or if you have one now you wont object paying for childminding for people who are sitting in a RSL or going shopping.

Nobody objects to temporarily helping the needy, but I do object to paying for people who live on welfare for decades or single mums who cant work because they have a 16!! year old child .

Ive got mates with a mildly disabled child, they cant even get a concession card as he does not require more than 14 hours a week of extra care, they live next door to a cou[ple who has not worked for 7 years their 5 healthy kids get free everything.

Sometines nick as you live here longer you get to see a bigger picture.
