Hangin on the telephone

Some quick advice please from those already in Oz.

I have a fax machine and a number of decent telephones.

Will they work in Australia? is the plug the same?

You are not legally allowed to plug them in.

No the telephones will not work, not sure about the fax machine.

To exapnd on the previous answer that they won't work, Telstra told me, yes I can take them & they maight work, but they have to be checked out by a Telstra engineer before they can be used.
