Re: Hand luggage
Better take a look at the Dept transport web site,
http://www.dft.gov.uk/transportforyo...irportsecurity
for the current hand luggage restrictions. They were pretty strict when we came over last October.

Previously ive always taken 1 handluggage, 1 small pab for passpost, tickets and cash, and a laptop. This however was 1 piece and 1 piece only! I had ot go and buy a larger bag (airport prices, grrrrr!) to put them all in. It was so frustrating as contents wise everything still went just all went in the 1 bag! GrrrrĀ¬

What about when you get to Kualar Lumpar, does it change there?
and with the regulations, does that technically mean that since there are six of us, that means potentially 6 laptop rucksacks?

Re: Hand luggage
Some of the airlines get a bit sniffy over the weight of handluggage for 'health and safety reasons'. Both Qantas and Royal Brunei check-in staff here in NZ have asked to weigh some of our handluggage for flights over to Oz. 6-7 kgs being the limit.
We just stash any heavy stuff into pockets and string cameras around our necks whilst checking in and then put it back into handluggage before going through security screening. I also carry a shoulder bag/handbag which will a take a surprisingly hefty amount of junk. (Nothing new there then )
Things may be a bitter stricter now though from the UK.

They are. See UK Transport web site.
Also, my 16 year old had a whistle on a keyring that her boyfriend had given her, and had it taken off her at Gatwick security - they were worried she might use it to deafen people on the plane - a security risk.
Cameras round necks, pockets full of stuff - not through UK airports.

Security when leaving the UK must be a nightmare now, are they still banning baby milk and other liquids from flights?

Re: Hand luggage
and it looks like Australia is gong to follow suit very soon as well. I've just been doing some research on airport security as we are flying to UK from Brisbane in May, and as from 31st March, all liquids, gels, aerosols, etc, are to be put into clear plastic sealable bags and will be checked separately at security. Exceptions will be made for passengers with medical requirements and mothers and babies who need baby food, milk, etc, although these items will be subject to extra scrutiny. This is only for international flights. Domestic flight security is currently under review.
