Property is still quite cheap here if your earning city wages. South Ridge estate is not a bad location it won't flood & it's quite desirable. I've worked on loads of the houses up there: Hilltop, Parkview, Gympie View etc. Loads of blocks being snapped up by investors from Brissie Sydney etc. The big four builders in the area have show homes or private homes you can look around.
When the blocks were first released just over 18 months ago they were circa 60k they're now about 115k.
The Glen Eden estate is also worth a look, as is Fairway/Fairview estate. House & land deals are about 300k

We bought our second investment property in Gympie at the back end of 2006 a huge queenslander, fully renevated the year before, great back deck and a stones throw from the centre for <300k and it has constantly been rented since for $300 per week. Our return per week offset against the cost of the property is probably better than the rental we have in Brissie. We really should have it valued sometime soon so I will be able to tell you about capital growth then. The place basically looks after itself at the moment we only occasionally top up the bank account to pay the mortgage etc.

I think most places in Qld are good for investment. I don't think you can go far wrong.
