Unhappy Gutted, medicals on hold

We have had to put our medicals on hold until Andrew sees another specialist. Immigration requested that we see an endocronologist as Andrew is a diabetic, his doctor wrote a report for DIMIA that we took along to the specialist. It mentioned that Andrew had too much protein in his urine so he was asked to do 2 more samples. These have also shown that he has too much protein. The endo' says he is pretty sure that it is nothing to do with the diabetes and some people just produce too much protein but has suggested rather than proceed any further and then get knocked back that we should cancel the meds until we get it sorted. I know Andrew is probably feeling far worse about this than me but I can't help thinking had I not pushed for us to emigrate that we wouldn't be where we are now. We have until 19th Nov to get meds done, should we inform our agent right now or wait until we get nearer our deadline? Any help would be great. Thanks
Sarah

Hi Sarah

I would suggest phoning your agent and letting them know the problem as they are there to help you. Our agent got our medical deadline prolonged as I was pregnant at the time and couldn't have a chest xray.

I hope everything works out ok. Don't be feeling guilty. I know I did when we were applying as I pushed for the emmigration at first, when it got stressfull I blamed myself as it was me that wanted it so much. Now my hubby wants to move as much as me.

Good luck
From Katie

Can you tell me what's happening with your medical ?.....I have high protein in my urine and have had for ages and yur note reminded me.....now I'm worried too.

It's something to do with the body not breaking down the protein from food as much as in other people........I've had loads of tests and I'm not diabetic (would a diabetic be refused entry ?.....seems harsh??) and never been ill in my life aside one bout of bad food poisoning......

I'm going to get this checked before hand somehow as my meds are next week...........any advice anyone out there....I don't have an agent.

Thanks for your support everyone, the specialist we have already seen is arranging an appointment with another specialist ASAP.

olibeneli,
According to the specialist Andrew's protein level should be around 25 but it is 66, was 116 on first sample. Will let you know as soon as I find out more.

Poor you Sarah, and poor Andrew, of course. Let's hope it's something and nothing. I know it's always said at these times and offers little consolation, but at least you've found out there is something not quite right and can start fixing it asap.

I would let your agent know as much as you know at this time and then keep them informed. I'm sure this kind of thing must happen a lot.

Hope you get it sorted soon - fingers crossed and cyber hugs all round.

Plenty of people on this forum are diabetic and have had no problems at all....here's a few to be going on with:

I have an underactive thyroid - another endocrine complaint. I'll be shoved into Category B at the medical, but that usually just means a short delay in processing.

Sometimes people are asked to sign a Health Undertaking which means that they will have to enter Oz within 6 months rather than a year and register with the health authorities there. I don't think this has happened to any diabetics, from what I've read.

Go to your GP, explain that you need some answers asap because of the immi process and see if you can get referred. You'll probably have to go private for speed, unless you can delay your meds and wait for the NHS.

For info on protein in the urine, read this (but please don't scare yourself!). There are a variety of conditions that can cause it:

Teach- I think if you explain to your GP that you need a quick referral it is possible for them to do it. I was at my GP 2 weeks ago for more antibiotics for a recurrent uti. He said he wanted to refer me to the urologist and I explained we were leaving early January. He said he see what he could do and I got an appointment through for next Tuesday. On the other hand I was at the dental hospital in April and have to get a biopsy and a wisdom tooth out- I didn't mention us leaving and i am still waiting on that appointment. It's certainly worth a try. Good luck

Hi Yvonne,
We paid to see a specialist at Bupa with regards to a medical report on Andrew's diabetes, he has been fab and is arranging for us to see a private urologist. He said that if we didn't have the funds he would still arrange it for us but it might take a bit longer. We will pay so it's quicker and what is another £130ish after spending so much already, plus it means that Andrew can relax a bit by knowing things are sorted quickly. He's at the point where he is ready to say enough is enough but I won't let him. For DIMIA to request the meds in the first place means we have overcome the problem of his ex wife and kids which was our biggest worry at the time of lodging. I will not let him give up, lol. Thanks for your reply and I hope you get your wisdom tooth out soon, I know what they are like. Have had all 4 of mine out, 2 years apart.

Hi Donna,
I'm glad that you have managed to get all Andrew's stuff back in time. How is the little man holding up. Still good I hope.

Olibeneli,
As far as I know they don't check your urine at medicals. This issue only arose as Andrew's doctor wrote a letter for DIMIA that our agent turned down and we foolishly took it to the specialist with us. Had we not done this he would never have requested urine samples as DIMIA only asked for blood. If I'm wrong on this matter I'm happy to be corrected. Best Wishes

Hiya Bundy,
Cheers for your reply chick, yup I know we have to stay positive. If I have anything to do with it we will. It is a minor thing compared to what some people have been through on here. Best wishes to you.

Sorry Sarah but they do check your urine at the medical, they detected blood in mine and I had to do a further 2. They check everyone over age 5.
