Default Growing your own veg

Went down the acerage on way to work, the pumpkins vine that came with the land has gone crazy, 2 weeks ago tiny pumpkins the size of a tomato, this week, I know its rained, but they are now like basket balls is that normal? dont want to eat anything weird, and when can you pick them do they drop off or something.

I am quite impressed, what else grows that easily, dont want any effort, just stuff like the magic pumpkins :scared:

Tomatoes grow very easily - we had some growing like weeds in the garden when we were in Ormiston. We didn't know they were tomato plants until we saw the fruit. Oh no, we didn't plant them. I think the birds or dogs or cats or the wind left the seeds...

Better get our green fingers ready for when own-grow will be the only choice.

What with world catastrophe imminent due to Peak-Oil happening soon, we'll need to be able to:

- store our rainwater (or bore)
- grow our own veg
- generate our own electricity (mainly solar)
- create our own organic fuel

Okay, slightly tongue-in-cheek, but it's surprising the number of people who are either unaware of the potential catastrophe we're facing or are choosing to ignore it.

BTW, I'm not a prophet of doom, I just think everyone should be aware.

You can have a look at the following, The End Of Oil - sobering reading.

My neighbour grew lots of herbs up until last week when some blokes in blue uniforms came and cut them all down and locked him up

Ransi my dear, we do live "rural" you know
My neighbour is a bit of a naughty boy he's been struggling to finish his self build and grew a "small crop" to save himself spending a fortune on it. That was his story, as the magistrate fined him $500 bucks and ordered his 12 plants to be destroyed she must have bought it He has to do a rehab course as well. Four nights in the watch house and an early guilty plea so as not to clog up the system.
I'm just pleased he didn't ask me to pop around and water his plants while he was away

We grow a few things, just learning though. Snow peas grow quite easliy, as long as they've got something to grow up.

And why is it almost impossible to get runner bean seeds here? No-one's heard of the best vegetable of all!

Off on a tangent a bit, but I totally agree. We should be thinking modular in terms of energy and - particulary here - water. Globalisation may eventually eat itself.
Anyways, I like picking my vegies just before I eat them
