Growing Veg
HOw easy/hard is it to do ion your back yard somewhere like central coast of NSW? Usual stuff like spuds and strawberries etc.

stuff grows a lot quicker and you can grow some veggies all year round
however insects are a pain and if you have fruit trees you also have to guard against parrots bats and possums ( so netting or covering the tree is the only solution )
you may have seen bannana trees with great big plastic bags over the fruit

Find a planting guide - you'll be able to plant all year round.

Robertson is the best soil to grow spuds If you do a search on selfsufficientish there is a good aussie bunch as well as uk that grow their own on there.

I was told that you can't get tomatos to set here - and it's true! I've a tomato TREE out there and damn all tomatos. Cost me $2.50 too.....

Maybe it is the better climate over west?
