Default Great weekend in Perth

Saturday: Swimming at Waterman's Bay with my 6 year old. Went about 40 metres out - into the blue holes in the reef. Saw some great angel fish. And then a seal pops its head up about 10 metres from us. Chomping on a crab or a decent sized fish. Then it swims near to us - quite a size itself. Felt like there was no place better in the world - my daughter hasn't stopped talking about it all weekend. Came out and had a cake and coffee at the cafe opposite the bay.

Today: Yanchep - first time for us. I was really impressed. Aboriginal talk which the kids loved. Walked along the boardwalk spotting the koalas. Coffee and great chocolate at the tea rooms and then visited Yanchep Inn but couldn't persuade the family to let me have a pint. We'll be back there soon.

Now we're all scoffing pizzas.

If only they could sort the schools out.......!

We went sailing on the Swan River on Saturday, it was great. Today, chilling in the pool, few beers and now out to socialise with the neighbours in the street. Livin' the dream!

Oh came home from work on Friday at 6 and said lets go camping.By 8.30 we were sitting outside our tent in Yanchep having a g&t watching all the bugs crawling by and then looking at all the stars. Got to see parrots ,sting ray and an emu(we think). Then spent Saturday and Sunday on the beach watching kids hop on and fall off surf boards. It was bliss. Now back home and all showered and getting ready for school tomorrow.

We went to Yanchep weekend before last and totally agree with you, it's lovely. We even paid the extra $10 to have our ticket turned into an annual membership. Did you go in the crystal cave? I'm going to organise a year 5 school excursion there.

Very jealous about the angel fish and the seal though, sounds awesome

We did the annual membership also - kids were pestering us to do everything in one afternoon but we said we'd keep the caves for the next visit.

Hmmm this sounds good - I take it there is a campsite near to the lagoon?

When I asked about a contact for the school excursion, they told me that they also do tour round another cave that involves harnesses and helmets. Should be good

Friends of the Marmion Marine Park, yes still involved with them. I think we're doing a touchpool next weekend, not sure, I'll have to check with the Mrs.

It would have been an Australian Sea lion, probably a male as they can grow to 300Kgs...

I think you're right. The yellow 'mane' matches my daughter's squealing: "Look Daddy it's got seaweed over its head!"

Hi, haven't snorkeled (is that an actual word) at Watermans yet, went snorkling at Mettams on Saturday, saw some great fish - it was a little murky though. Daughter took some good pictures with her mask camera, though not as many as we thought as she'd accidentally left it on video mode instead of picture mode and eaten up the memory.

On Sunday we went bodyboarding down at Trigg, current a little strong so it took ages to get out to the waves. Caught a few good ones though but knackered very quickly because of the current so decided to call it quits after about 3/4 of an hour.

Will have to try Watermans next Saturday and the cafe opposite is one of our favourites - the Wild Fig - fantastic food and milk shakes.

We love Perth!

It's my OH's 40th soon and have been trying to book an overnight stay somewhere nice. I've struggled as most have a minimum 2 night stay. After reading this thread (never thought of Yanchep) we're now going up there. Am really looking forward to it and the kids can't wait, so thanks.

You will see quite a few emus along the edge of the Marmion extension.............strutting their stuff.............you will have to be quick though, as pretty soon they will all be run over by some of the loonies that fly up the road!!
