Great bank account.....
Bank West are currently offering an account called Hero (naff name I know) with no charges at all (as far as I can see), unlimited transactions AND they pay 5% on balances (less than $5000). You just need to deposit $2000 per month as salary.
I thought this looked very good - and I'm thinking of changing from the ANZ.
Good news for new migrants also.
Anyone got any experience of BankWest or this account in particular?

I bank with Bankwest - I have a Telenet saver, currently paying 7% interest. I have found them to be excellent, and they have an aggressive policy of taking on the big banks over fees and charges, so they certainly get my vote there.
You may also be interested in the Regular Saver, offering 8% on monthly savings. No fees, though you have to make no withdrawals to qualify.
Can't recommend them highly enough...

Great news - I think I'll give them a go.
The ad impressed me because it was the first time where I'd seen a concerted effort made at diluting the status quo.

Re: Great bank account.....
we use bankwest telesaver account and credit card - find them pretty good, easy to use (we do it all via internet)
i am also thinking of opening one of their kids accounts for DD so we can start saving a wee bit every month.
thanks for this info, might look into opening one of these for DH as he would qualify with the salary conditions

Re: Great bank account.....
Got bank west account, telenet saver, but the 12 month honeymoon interest rates ended now, back to 6.5% no probs tho.
They did have a kids account at 10%, it was so complex tho, could only deposit so much a month, could only bank up to 3000 in total then it was emptied, the application pack was like a brick, dtiched that idea, seemed like a lot of marketing for a disappointing idea in reality.
Seen a couple of buildings with Bank West signs on them over here, qld, one in bris one in maroochydore, not sure if they are branches or just offices.

They seem to be spreading like a plague across the East coast. I notice that many 7-11 stopres in Sydney has a Bankwest ATM in it now...

I think it's a min $25 a month for the 10% one linked to another kid's account.

Re: Great bank account.....
I had a Bankwest Telnet saver account but after 12 months the rate dropped as no longer a new customer. I've since signed up with raboplus.com.au which, after the honeymoon period, has a slightly higher rate.

Think we will open the Hero account, does anyone know if we open a joint account do we both need to deposit $2,000 a month or just one of us?
