Default Grass not Greener

For us unfortuntely I feel the grass will not be greener in oz.... and I will be giving up this dream as I am afraid it would be a huge mistake.....

I would like to thank everyone on this site who are so honest and say how it is.... We could only get into Oz on a temporary business visa... and even though we have been very sucessful in this country there really is no saying what would happen over there and with two small children I feel its too big a chance to take as we would have to start again but something completely different as my husbands imports cars here.. not the sort of thing you could do over there really..... and after 4 years if we have not made it.. out we go.....So I am going to count my blessings and brave this lovely weather!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! might look into france though.....

sorry to hear that, I think a big move like that is easier when you are single and can bare all the responsibility on your own shoulders, when you have kids/business etc its not that easy, just find somewhere in this country which is nice ( thats my backup plan )

Sorry Jeannie, but whenever you come it will almost certainly rain for part of the time!
My fiance is coming to the UK from Brisbane this summer and he said "Tell me which month is sunny and warm all the time and I'll come then"! - poor man, hated to disillusion him. Think it was at that point that he decided we are going to settle in Oz not England!

It has snowed in May in England before, but not for a few years!
May is a beautiful time of the year in England and can actually get quite warm. As for rain its par for the course in England at any time of the year, but May is usually quite nice, My daughter was born in 1990 and there was a heatwave!

The Cotswolds are very beautiful, I am sure You will have a lovely time.

Love Sharon x

Mandy Bale will become famous soon enough
Default Re: Grass not Greener

Sorry to hear you changed your mind but then again better to do it before you leave than to find out after (bit like marriage I suppose!!!) as it would be very hard to go back to England and start again. Just to throw a spanner in the works car importing is pretty big out here, especially with the Japanese cars. My hubby has bought a Nissan Skyline which is a very popular import here and there are big businesses around here (Sydney) that specialise in Japanese imports, whether you need a new indicator lense or a full tune up. But then I suppose that would mean there is fierce competition too so it probably would be difficult for a new business to get off the ground. Anyway, its good that you can see beyond the 'rose tinted glasses' everyone keeps on about so good for you with your decision.

Take care

mandy

Good for you. Everyone on this forum regularly says do your research and make sure that you're doing the right thing for you. It is somehow refreshing to see someone who has done just that and reconsidered their original plans.

I just hope that in the years to come you're not plagued by "what if '' questions.

All the best

thanks for the replies... hopefully years to come I will not considered the what if.. who knows ... but husband would probably still to at a drop of hat... I think if we could get in the skills visa we would probably go for it... but this business visa... well its hard enough in this country as we know to start your own business let alone employing 3 people so gods know what it would be like on the otherside of the world trying to do it with no contacts at all... a thats the risk for us.. and with two young children I really dont think its fair to drag them over there and then maybe if we do not make it work back here with no money....

I think for us is that we moved out of London to the Cotswold to escape the rat race which we have... but we do not have the sunshine thats all.... which I would love but I do not think it would be best for us as a family...... if anyway can tell me otherwise I would be interested... its going to be hard enough starting up in another country without the pressure of your own business with x a number of years to get it going and employing people.. i dont know why they make it so hard when its obvious you are ok for money... but thats the way it is.... if we were skilled and had no money we would get in it does not make sense to me really if they look at the over all picture.. god I am going on a bit now.. never mind...

And to those people coming to Cotswolds ... it does not rain all of the time really.....

Gill,

May I ask you, did you apply for the business owner visa (PR)? & Why do you say you can only get a temp visa?

Just asking as we are about to start the process applying for PR with a Business visa.

Regards,

Cinderella

it was because my husband is a sole trader he would not qualify under a business visa because of the certain business criteria required hence the temporary business visa..... hope that makes sense...
