Default Government boosts spending for Pinjarra/Murray Shire (Mandurah rural area)

The "tree change" is the way to go for many people, fed up with the ever-smaller blocks of land being sold. The town of Pinjarra and anywhere in the Murray shire is being seen as the place to head for some time, and just lately there isn't a week goes by without the area getting a mention somewhere in the media. Have just seen the front page of this week's Mandurah Mail, here is the link: http://www.mandurah.yourguide.com.au...=2&mast_id=111 if anyone is interested in looking slightly further afield than Mandurah city itself.

There is to be massive spending on a new light industrial estate, creating 100's of jobs, a new Health centre/hospital beds, improvements to the popular steam railway tourist attraction, not to mention all the jobs being created by the opening of the Boddington Gold mine.

Pinjarra is only just out of Mandurah, about a 15 minute drive, and some of the suburbs of Murray are closer to Mandurah than, for example, Dawesville. With the new road link now under construction, many Perth commuters are starting to look at the Murray shire, a chance to get out into some clean country air, while still being close to Mandurah and only 40 minutes out of Perth, so it's rural living but without being stuck out in the middle of nowhere. The population is set to expand rapidly over the next 10 years. With coastal suburb prices sky-rocketing, why not take a look at properties in the Murray region before they go through the roof too! There's a big festival on all this weekend at Pinjarra I believe, good old-fashioned school fairs and lots of other things going on, a good community atmosphere I should imagine.

Went out to feed the sheep (our lawnmowers!) this morning and discovered the stork had arrived during the night! Ah the joys of living in the country, cute eh? Don't think it will be ending up as roast lamb though, the kids will turn vegetarian first.........

Hi,

I'm not there yet but i am looking at settling in mandurah and why not in murray as soon as the visa granted...

How does murray or pinjarra compare to mandurah in terms of prices for a non-luxurious house. Just what a family of 3 people would need..
And how about job prospects - I'm a hairdresser and hubby in the textile industry. However hubby will be looking at other industry as he knows quite well it may be hard for him to find jobs.

Jacqui - thanks for your post. I find these sort of posts VERY interesting in the information gathering process of "trying to figure out where to live" question.
There are pros and cons to all areas, and hearing other people's opinions and thoughts, always helps.

The papers this week are pushing the new Amarillo development now. A massive "satellite city" planned 10kms north-east of Mandurah, just on the edge of the Murray shire. Lots to be available by 2011. Further details available from the West Australian http://www.thewest.com.au/default.as...ontentID=30891. The population of Mandurah is rapidly expanding, too fast for the current facilities, so this is more good news for Murray residents, to have a new city close by, with the facilities that it will offer, an easy link to Perth by rail or freeway, yet still being close to Mandurah and a short drive to the ocean. An easy drive to the airport too, if they extend the Tonkin Highway, handy for those UK visitors!
