Got the visas.....but....
 

Hiya all, i've not been on this site for a while cos its been so negative recently.
Anyone agree??
anyway - the passports have finally arrived but still big doubts about 'going'.
Most folk would jump for joy but we're 'oh no, decision time'.
When we originally applied, hubby's self employed business packed in. At the same time as applying for Oz , hubby applied for the Fire brigade, not thinking he would get in.
But, low and behold, he did.
So, circumstances have changed somewhat!!
Me (nurse), hubby(painter/decorater to trade) now Fireman.
4 kids - love their schools,friends,homelife & seasons!!
Point being - do we give up what we've got & head for Oz or.........stay put & just validate & stay put for a while?
(BTW, he cant transfer with the Fire service - already checked it out)

One minute i'm saying to myself 'life's too bloody short, go for it girl'
then something inside says 'better the devil you know'

shona i think if i was as unsettled as you have been about your move and as happy with the way things are at the moment in your life then stay were you are.
try to validate your visas with a holiday, then sit back and see what life brings in the next five yrs.
att least with 3 or 4 yrs experiance in the brigade if you didnt like it out there micky would have enough experiance to return to that as a carreer.
a dont forget you can doss on our floor anytime if were out there by then.
good luck again with your decision, and yes the site does seem to go round in circles a bit but i suppose thats inevitable as new members come online asking some of the same questions.

I have to agree with Shaun on this one. If your both happy where you are at the moment then validate your visa's don't just brush them to one side, perhaps once your hubby's done a couple of years service then give it a go in Australia.

I'll put my vote in on that too. It's usually better to have and not need than to need and not have.

A short holidaying trip to Australia to validate them visas is a small price to pay for an opportunity that will remain there for 5 years (or so). Remember that in a few years' time, your points may potentially go down with age, if the points system is still what it is today.

sorry to here your predicament (spelling?)
how about swapping your property temporarily i.e http://www.holi-swaps.com/swapsau.htm for 6 months,and try to get a feel of the oz life by getting jobs/schooling,then if it dont work out ,u still have a chance to pickup where u left.or then again u might think to yourself why the hell did i not sell my house,iknew it would of been better in oz,

I agree with the general advice to validate. It would be silly not
to.

Once you have PR status, you should be keeping in touch with all the
different fire services in Australia, making sure you can get a foot
in the door whenever they do decide to recruit.

If your still having doubts, the time just is'nt right at the moment. BUT, don't throw away your chance to go in the future if you change your mind.

GO VALIDATE THOSE VISAS
YOU KNOW IT MAKES SENSE

Sorry you are feeling like this, suppose we all have these doubts about certain things, but yours seem to be a bit more than little doubts. We leave next week and we have just spent 3 weeks with my parents, i had to say goodbye to them yesterday, that was the most upsetting experience of my life, but i still want to go, they will always be there for us i know that , but we have to give this a go. Go validate at least , then see how you feel.
13 days to go now , boy how exciting!!!

I agree you must validate your visas. You never know what the future holds, you may have a total change of heart in the next couple of years & then you will still have the option to see if the dream really is the right thing for you and your family.

This is probably not too sensible but what tthe heck..
my comments are:
You would have to be crazy not to have these doubts & worries. I have no doubt that anyone with any responsibilities and half a brain needs to have these negative thoughts occasionally. After all leaving family, freinds, familiar stuff etc is the hardest thing in the world. I too (and no doubt many others) will be worried about this and that when the time comes. YOU MUST BE BOLD AND GO and find out for yourself. If it works out, then you will have a great life. If it doesnt, well so what? - you can come back - England is a fantastic place and arguably better in many other ways. At worst, you and your family will have had an adventure.

Hi Micky,
I just migrated 7 months ago from Holland to Perth with wife and two
kids. You are standing for a big choice. I would suggest if there is
too much doubt, don't do it. Because even if you have no doubt at all,
you will always find a few things after you arrive that will make you
doubt. This will then add up to the doubt you already have, and that
will be too much. I am having a great time up in Perth. I was lucky to
find a job quickly and the kids love it.

Ths is best advice anyone will give you ,your job will not change a lot but your husband will find it very hard to get a firemans job here.
As for your kids every Scot I know in Perth rates education in Scotland far above what given in Australia must be the fear of the strap?
Perth welcomes nymphomaniacs you would be in good company with some of the local girls , it must the sunshine.
You can have a good life anywhere if you have the jobs that suit you ,a crap job will alter your out look on life and a lot who come here are runing away from average jobs in the hope of better.Keep smiling 3 each at weekend sounded great match , Gers still on top?

Great game on Sunday - Rangers v's Celtic. What a match.
Can you watch games like this in Oz or is it just highlights?
Players fighting in the tunnel...tut tut.
Not a great example to set for the fans. No wonder there was ALOT of trouble after the game. But then thats not a surprise anyway.
Michael was a bit p****d off cos he'd won tickets (NTL) for the game and couldn't go cos he was working (new job) so a sicky was out of the question! Gave them to his pal.
Still, the Gers are still at the top of the league, much to Michaels disgust.
C'mon the boys in blue.

But here I go again...I'm in the f**k it mood today and lets give Oz a go. Tomorrow will probably be another story.

We are definately going to validate, probably in March '03.

Any offers of accommodation anyone? Its just for a couple of days in one place and then acouple at anothers house as we wouldn't like to impose on folk and overstay our welcome.

The general consensous is VALIDATE and I have to go with that. :)

You have to be positive in your mind before you make a huge change like this.

I am here are you know, working and Tone started school yesterday. Things are different, but not difficult to adjust to :)

You will know in your heart when you are ready :)

If you've got children they need to validate too. Otherwise you'll
need to sponsor them for migration separately later on and that can
get messy, especially if the rules change (plus there's a cost).
