got that sinking feeling

well the sold sign has gone up on the house (only took 8 weeks to sell) the buyer are not in a chain and have the morgage ready so it looks like 2 months for it all to be over and done with

so why do i keep getting this sinking feeling at the bottom of my stomach everytime i think of moving, should be really excited but reality is hitting home

anyone else feel like this at this stage

I'm getting the feeling of deja vu! Sounds almost exactly the same as us. We are due to exchange contracts at the end of the month and rather than feeling excited all I can think of is just how much we still seem to have to do. I think it's because us ladies seem to bear the brunt of all the organising as "your sooo much better at that sort of thing". Or is it just in my house......no I don't think so.

Just try and keep positive and remember all the time and effort that has gone into getting you this far.

Best Wishes and hope the move goes smoothly

Sally

Have just noticed that you are going to Adelaide - so are we!!:D

Just think of the party we can have when we get there!!

Is the sinking feeling because you're unsure whether you're doing the right thing or is it because you've got a hell of a lot to do now?

Re: got that sinking feeling

Yeah we felt like that. It was a bit of a roller coaster really. One minute we'd be thinking great were nearly there and the next minute we'd be thinking sh*t were nearly there.

Its a big thing so expect all the emotions. Don't expect to end anytime soon as you'll be on that roller coaster for a good few months yet.

scrawni Mar 4th 2004 9:05 am

That's just how I feel, one minute I cant wait and get really excited, the next I feel really down.

Last week I felt really miserable thinking about leaving family etc. This week I am all for it and can't wait.

Our emotions are all over the place but the good thing is most people seem to feel this way. We just have to accept that it is going to be like this for some time.

Mandy:rolleyes:

Hi Arlene

I've been feeling exactly the same as you! We are in the same position, sold our house about 4 weeks ago, we've got our visa and yet I still feel miserable some days and elated the next? Weird things going on in my head at the mo!:scared:

I think it's the fact that slowly but surely you're packing up your life and sooner or later you will feel like you don't exist because you'll be homeless, no keys, no car, no job, nothing - zilch......:scared:

But then tomorrow I'll be skipping around the room, planning our new life into the unknown..

I know it's not just women and their hormones, hubby feels just like me too!:D :D

S Oldfield Mar 4th 2004 8:08 pm

Hi Arlene,
We are not even at that stage yet, and I get that `sinking feeling`. I think it is definately natural, but is it also a `woman `thing?
Any answers, any blokes feel like this?

ScuntoBris Mar 4th 2004 8:17 pm

Sitting at the airport, waiting for the plane..... Mixed emotions!!!

However all is rosy at present, now we are here.

Bordy Mar 4th 2004 8:35 pm

Its a huge move theres bound to be massive ups & downs with the emotions. Weve been there & done it & 5 years down the track weve never been happier. I think the opportunitys out here outweigh the UK & its a fantastic place to bring up kids. Wish my parents did it when I was a kid, I might be an Aussie rules Footy star now. Ahh well, I can dream lol.

Got it in one KL. That exactly how I feel somedays :(

Then I get the exciting trips to the tip as well so that perks me up :D :D

S Oldfield Mar 4th 2004 8:45 pm

yeah but is it a woman thing or not?

Vegemite Kids Mar 4th 2004 8:48 pm

In our house its mainly a woman thing, in that I'm panicking the whole time and Chris only panics occasionally, but when he does ...... Oh boy !!!

Bordy Mar 4th 2004 8:48 pm

Well possibly more opportunities in Melbourne than Sydney maybe.

A parochial mexican would say that.

So would a Scottish Mexican

ANA123 Mar 4th 2004 8:55 pm

I had the jitters on and off from the moment we got our visas, mine disapeared at the airport, Will had none until the last week but then got it bigtime, his went at the airport too. Now we're here, the sinking feeling has not surfaced.

sky Mar 4th 2004 9:17 pm

Yes had that pit of the stomach sinking feeling once the excitement had worn off for a few weeks before we left the uk and so much guilt cos taking 3 sons away from everything they knew and yes be prepared for it to last a lot longer than a few weeks. I think it is natural though and it will be so worth it when you are settled :)

phyonics Mar 5th 2004 10:12 am

Yeah, its bound to happen.
You're making a move that a lot of people aren't brave enough to make. How many people back home will wish they'd got the guts to do the same thing.

For us it comes down to the fact that we could never pass off such an amazing opportunity while we have the chance to do it.

Whats the worst that can happen...really!?

We're only just starting the process, but good luck to all you guys that are on the verge of heading out to Oz

Marko

cresta57 Mar 5th 2004 10:59 am

When we were at that stage the wierd thing was when your stuff is in transit and your house and cars are all sold that feeling of having no place to belong. The big thing with me was having no keys, purely a psycological thing but just having no keys in my pocket was awful.
Doh!!!! do I need to go on Jerry Springer:D :D :D ?

stefian Mar 5th 2004 10:27 pm

Thank god it's not just me.

some days I am exited and some i'm fed up or in tears. It's the fear of the unknown. We have a comfortable life with a nice house etc. and will we be as comfortable over in Oz? We are fortunate that my husband has a job waiting for him, but I haven't so our income will be a lot lower.

We have our visa's and we are getting frustrated cause we are only waiting for someone to buy the house. it's like the calm before the storm, because there will be so much to do that can't be done yet.

Life is too short to say I wish I'd done .........

so sod! it if worst comes to the worst it will have been an expensive but fun long holiday

Steph

Bordy Mar 5th 2004 10:34 pm

Youve got the right attitude Stefian, I'm sure you come towill love it over here. The first year is hectic but give it time, took us 4 before we finally got a house we could call our own after buying land & having it built. But Ive no regrets, this is home now.

arlene Mar 6th 2004 2:55 am

just to say thanks to everybody who replied i was feeling that i was alone i this feeling as everyone has been posting how excited they all are

i am excited but nervous as hell but today is another day and i feel much more positive now. the buyer have been round to look at the house again and have said that the place was just as great as when they first viewed it, their wheels are in motion and have got the morgage have no chain and want to complete as quick as possible so good news all round

i guess then that i will still have ups and down days however today is an up day

arlene:) :) :)

sj oldfield Mar 6th 2004 3:01 am

Glad you are feeling a bit more positive today........everyv day is going to be different.......a bit like being on a roller coaster......one day you are happy, and the next you are sad and full of doubts. It will happen to us all, even those that dont admit to it.

arlene Mar 6th 2004 3:12 am

thanks sj

stop the world i want to get off feeling has passed

arlene

sj oldfield Mar 6th 2004 3:18 am

Really pleassed you are feeling better Arlene.
I had this feeling last week, really, really low.....even got to the point where I was analising( spelt wrong I know) my relationship with my partner, worrying about it being strong enough to cope with the coming months.
Today have got my chin up and my positive head on!!!

arlene Mar 6th 2004 3:22 am

og my god we are twins had that same feeling as well

arlene

Glad to see your back on top today. We all have off days where we question ourselves and we wouldn`t be human if we didn`t.
