got myself a job!!!
wooohoooo...i start monday, temping for 1-3 months with a finance company in the CBD (level 38 - good thing i'm not acrophobic), with the possibility of permanency AND another girl from the agency that got me this job is putting me forward as a candidate for a permanent job at the same company!
oh dear...it's all happening here - as i'm typing this i got a call from another agency through which i applied for a job and they want to see me tomorrow 'so i might get to choose' (his words, after i told him that i was starting a new job monday) - i must have done something to please the gods...SO HAPPY!!

Well done Tanja. Must feel great. How long did it take to get a job? I'll be going to the East coast as a PA. Are you working in accounts?

Re: got myself a job!!!
thanks all! i've been looking for a job (seriously) for about 4 weeks now and i think my main 'downfall' has been the lack of 'australian work experience' - and to be honest, there doesnt seem to be as many jobs as there were when i first got here - have heard of several industries that are really, really slow at the moment, but all in all, 4 weeks aint bad!
capacity, i've been to several agencies, some of which just really, really pissed me off with their uninterested attitude, but this job i got through business recruiters australia (www.msagroup.com.au) in west-perth and i would also thoroughly recommend lois wood recruitment (www.woodrecruitment.com.au) in east perth - both agencies were very relaxed, interested, and genuinely willing to help (a quality that i've found lacking in a few others...). good luck with your 'hunt'

Re: got myself a job!!!
If anyone is looking for work in Accounts - Management accounting and accounts payable, pm me. I work for a multinational oil company in the centre of Perth and there are quite a few vacant positions. Because they are multi national they are keen to employ people from all countries. I'm the only Welsh at the mo. but am about to leave to go over East. Good firm to work for, salaries aren't that great, but a good company to put on your c.v. health insurance and other perks.
Well done Tanya - some of these agencies really peeved me off to - much the same as the UK, but once you do get that 'Oz experience' jobs are much easier to come by.

hi yvette,
my last job was as a rates officer for a local council in the netherlands - a pretty specialised job as you can imagine with all the laws and legislation, no good here though - so here i'm trying to get into general admin and hope to work myself into something more specialised from there...

Hi Tanja
Congrats and well done! Another hurdle overcome!!
We are only in the early stages of our application, but your thread has inspired me! I have started another thread rather than take yours over, but any wise words would be welcomed from anybody on here.
See post: admin jobs (stay at home mums)
Thanks.
Nikki
