Good secondary schools near yellow Armadale line to PERTH
 

Hi all

Can anyone reccomend any good secondary schools and or areas to live which are also close to any stops ( Oats Street, Cannington etc)on the yellow Amradale line to Perth? Hopefully with in a few kilo of the trainstain for OH to get to work and with a good secondary in the area. Many thanks!

The number on the left is the school's position on a list of 173 schools. You should look up all these schools on My School Australia, look at each school's website, and hopefully someone on here knows something about these schools.

There are a lot of different factors to consider other than travel convenience. As you will see, about half of the schools above tend to be in the lower part of this particular ranking list. Some of the suburbs for these schools would be regarded as a tad on the dodgy side by many, eg Armadale. Even if you do not live in a dodgy-ish suburb, but go to school in one, you child would have to travel on public transport in such an area. Some schools are served by a school bus route, so worth looking into those on the TransPerth website.

Each of the state schools would have a catchment area, although it is possible to be enrolled from outside the area, especially if local demand is low (but if that is the case, why would you want to go there?). The private schools do not tend to have catchment areas, but it can be difficult to get a place.

Wow-thank you so much this is really helpful. Sevenoaks looks like it could be an option. Yes Thanks for the tips on living in dodgy areas-definately want safety above all else!

Have a look at http://www.myschool.edu.au/Main.aspx...endarYear=2009 - how old are your children? Do you know which school years they are going into? Sevenoaks seems to only offer Year 11 and 12. Also look at the student background info on the right hand side.

Do they have any particular talents or interests at school? If they do, they might be able to get into specialist programmes that some of the schools run. Have a look at Como Secondary College http://www.como.wa.edu.au/.

Just want to add that LSHS (Lesmurdie senior high school) is not on a train line, we don't get trains up here in the hills, so a bus journey would be included in getting there

If you settle in Roleystone then there is free bus travel to Lesmurdie SHS

That's why I typed "the following are on or near the Armadale line". I included a couple of schools that would need a bus connection from a station, or a school bus, to give the OP more choice. I left off schools that looked like a very long bus connection.

No ego involved from my side. I would be concerned about living in the hills, now that we know more about how the bush is managed since the fires last weekend in Roleystone/Kelmscott. Lesmurdie seems more closed in by bush than other suburbs.

both of my girls go there and love it.... it is a good school and a few of the private school girls have transferred there this year as it's educational reputation is better

I would recommend it but then i am biased as i live there:rofl:

We have a very good fire management plan in Kalamunda/Lesmurdie.... totally different to Armadale which Roleystone comes under!

That's good that some hills suburbs are doing the right thing, but you mentioned that the OP could live in Roleystone and travel to Lesmurdie SHS. There will probably be a shortage of rentals in the area due to the bushfires. Choice of suburb is very important for the whole family, some want the beach, some the hills, others somewhere in the middle.

I went to Kelmscott SHS about 25 years ago.

Was nice enough. When I was there they had lots of farming type courses (with a mini farm onsite). They also had courses for kids with an "advanced" academic slant.

Drove past it last year and it had been massively modernised.

Really good teachers, but some of the kids I went with were a bit bogan (nothing compared to the UK though).

I used to get the bus from next to Kelmscott Hospital, and then walk from Kelmscott train station.
