Good news on the house front
Thought this might cheer everyone in house selling purgatory up - we've accepted another offer on the house!!!!
We put it back on the market last week after waiting 4 months for our buyer's chain to complete. He promised to get bridging finance if it was taking too long but then refused because he said we could be ready to exchange any day. Meanwhile the person at the end of the chain had just discovered you have to pay management company freeholders if you want a report from them for your solicitor...
We had someone round to view on Sunday morning then they were back again last night. Very keen - they rang the estate agent 9am Tues morning to say they wanted to see it again before anyone else.
We heard this morning that they'd offered us £10K less than the other turkey but will actually get bridging finance right away and not even attempt to sell their property first. We bumped them up another £5K and then accepted. We've agreed a deadline of exchange within 4 weeks with completion 3 weeks later or the deal's off.
The relief is that they really want the house badly so are prepared to behave as if we hold the cards rather than the 'it's a buyer's market' approach of the last guy. So fingers, toes and nose all crossed.
I'm all in a tizz now and don't know whether to laugh or cry. Meanwhile someone wants to buy our car right now and a friend has offered to lend us hers until we go so it's all happening!
Some good news for all hopefully. News reports are saying that house prices have stopped dropping and even picked up a bit so the buyers are coming back out. Back in April/May we just got a lot of lookers who weren't serious, all of whom had been on the estate agent's books for a while.
This time there seems to be a different feel to the market. Over the last few days we've seen several couples standing in front of our house and writing down the estate agents number from the board. One even knocked on the door to ask the price. Just a few minutes after we accepted the offer we saw a couple ringing up the estate agents from a mobile phone.
Best of luck to everyone else selling their houses - hope we all make it down under soon!

After so many weeks of us all fretting about our house sales things really seem to be moving now (Shame that DIMIA aren't moving with visa's ) It is so good to type with people in the same boat whether the news be good or bad.
Congratulations to everyone who has had good news today
I feel a party coming on!!!!
