Donna, do you have a specific area (ie northern suburbs, east, west, south?) you will be looking in or not? Better to pick something that direction if you have one, saves battling to the other side! If you dont have anywhere specific, I'll just start suggesting in all directions .

Carrianne, depends what sort of food you like! A couple that we particularly like are
  • Bow Thai - Cathedral Place Wickham St Fortitude Valley - Thai obviously LOL
  • Bretts Wharf - 449 Kingsford Smith Drv Hamilton - seafood & other
  • Breakfast Creek Wharf Restaurant - 192 Breakfast Creek Rd Newstead - seafood & other.
  • Brekky Creek Hotel - across from above - pub fare, they do a nice steak.
  • Sheraton Hotel - Ann Street - has a nice smorgasbord as does Conrad Tresury Casino - North Quay. Cant remember the name of the restaurant in the casino, but its in the front doors & down to the left.
  • Pier Nine - Eagle Street - if you like yuppie type food LOL
  • Exchange Hotel - Edward Street - pub food, steaks etc

None of those are very expensive, the seafood ones probably top the list @ about $60-80 or so for the bill depending on what you order, Conrads & the pubs about $30-40. All of them are just a short taxi ride from the centre of town or in the city itself. There are also a whole range of alfresco eateries down on Albert Street that we have eaten at, sorry cant remember the names of any of them! Somewhere else that we went recently that we enjoyed was the Sit Down Comedy Club at the Paddington Tavern, meals in the pub & then downstairs for the show (Aussie humour, some of it topical, so you may not get it hehe).

As for bars, boy, its been a long time since I went clubbing (about 3 years), so not sure how valid my selections would be, but as a suggestion try (I dont know how old you are, so these are wild guesses, they are places I used to frequent!) -
Gilhooleys - Albert Street - *Irish* pub, music & drinking til 3am
Adrenaline Bar/club - Charlotte Street - younger set, usually a line to get in, music & drinking til 3am
Pig & Whistle - Queen Street Mall - bar only
PJ O'Reillies - Next to Adrenalin Bar - Charlotte Street - Same as Gilhooleys.
Hotel LA - Cnr Caxton Street & Petrie Terrace - pub, music & dancing til 4am.

Cant think of any more for now, time for .

Donna, here are some suggestions, havent actually stayed in any of them, they are just ones I found with a bit of searching around.

If you are looking at staying for a week or so, you could always try an apartment. If I had known Carianne was staying that long I would have probably suggested one for her as well, but at least with the kids its a little better than all being shoved in 1 motel room. Usually full cooking facilities & quite often works out cheaper than paying per night in a motel. Check out these ones -

Manhatten Apartments - these are at Newstead on the northern fringe of the CBD.

Kangaroo Point Apartments - on the southern side of the river, very easy to get to the SE Freeway.

Allender Apartments - Newfarm, down by the river

Matthew Flinders Apartments - Wooloowin, about 3 kms north of the city.

In motel accomodation, here are a couple to choose from - Most only have a price per night, ask for a weekly rate if you are planning on staying that long.

Toowong Central Motel Apartments - 4kms west of Brisbane.

Paramount Motel & Apartments Kangaroo point

All those are very close to the city, but not actually in it. If you want places further out, you are probably best to decide which area you might be interested in & I can look further. Hell we even have a motel straight across the road from our house that does family rooms & has spa, tennis court etc, but at 15kms from the city, its probably not perfect unless youare looking at housing in this area .
