Over Easter we stayed at a nice B and B in Deception Bay to the north of Brisbane. It was a typical Queenslander and had a family room. The owners were very friendly and our son disappeared most of the time playing with their 4 year old!
They have a website:-

Might be a bit expensive for a long stay though....

I'm looking out of my window at the moment at the Kangaroo
Point Holiday Appartments and they are advertiseing a room rate of $352 per week or $71.50 per night.
Not a brilliant location just by the Gabba Cricket ground. Too far to walk into the city but close to the busway with busses running every couple of minutes duing the day. It looks a clean well run establishment but I've never been inside. Plenty of parking in the grounds and would be a good choice to first get your bearing, suspect it's full of buisness people rather then holiday makers as it's that sort of area.

Try www.Needitnow.com.au
they show all of the last minute hotel deals available in Aus.
We used them when we out there last year, and stayed in some swanky 4star places for $100 pernight.
It is an excellent site and also has apartments on it, take a look.

we stayed here
www.dahrlcourt.com.au
"We have 2 different types of accommodation at "Dahrl Court". We have modern
1 and 2 bedroom units which cost $125 per night for up to 2 people plus $20
per extra person up to 5 people depending on availability. These units have
1 or 2 bedrooms, separate bathroom, laundry facilities, large kitchen/dining
area and separate living room. One of each 1 and 2 bedroom units has an out
door patio area.
Our heritage apartments are $95. per night for up to 2 people plus $20 per
extra person up to 4 people. They have one bedroom, en-suite bathroom,
kitchen, separate living area and a sunroom or open balcony.
We offer a 15% discount for any stay over 7 nights.
We are a unique property in the heart of Brisbane. "Dahrl Court" was built
in 1934 (old by Queensland standards) and is still maintained in most of its
original condition. When you walk through the glass doorway and see the
timber flooring with runners and gaze down the long hallway it is like
taking a step back in time.
All our apartments have a separate bedroom, bathroom, fully equipped kitchen
and living area, and most have a sunroom or open balcony. The rooms are air
conditioned, but we have genuine casement windows that allow you to take
full advantage of the afternoon breezes. The ambience in the apartments
leaves you feeling relaxed and comfortable. (Just like home).
We have BBQ facilities and 5 separate outdoor areas near the BBQ for your
enjoyment. We also have modern features like microwaves in the kitchen and
for the fitness enthusiast a small gym. We have guest laundry, Iron &
Ironing Board, TV, email & fax facilities. Continental breakfast is also
available.
There is an Olympic swimming and diving pool only 5 minutes walk away
adjacent to a large park. Also the newly established Roma Street Parklands
are just up the road.
The Central Business District and all the restaurants, cinemas, theatres and
entertainment provided are only a 10 minute stroll away. Each weekend we
have 3 markets to choose from, the Eagle Street Pier, Southbank or Valley
markets.
We are only 5 minutes from the Valley and Chinatown which is always an
interesting trip, especially for the genuine cuisine.

Hi Pott
We are in the same position i.e. two kids, loads of luggage. We recently received a brochure from big4 which showed some really nice places to stay in Brisbane and rest of Australia i.e. villas, apartments etc. great prices too - it may be worth a look - also you can request the brochure online.
The main website is www.big4.com.au
I've included some of the individual websites taken from the brochure covering the Brisbane area
www.caravanvillage.com.au - 12 kms from city centre. Not just caravans, they also seem to have cabins and villas
www.gatewayvillage.com.au - 16km south of Brisbane's centre.
Hope you find something.
