Default Good dentist in Melbourne?

Can anyone recommend a good dentist in Melbourne ? - preferably not too far from the city.

Also - roughly how much would it cost for a check up and scale and polish ( I know... expensive.....)

While I am on this subject - does anyone have any experience of getting dental insurance in Melb? I seem to remember a thread on this a while back but couldn't find the info I was after.

Cheers

Hi Helen
I used to go to a dentist by my office in AMP Plaza (corner of Bourke & William St in the CBD). I only went twice (once for checkup & once for filling) but he was fine - he was recommended to me by a work colleague. I will have to dig out the name/number of him tho (they shared offices with the doctors - very handy with the being so close to work, seeing as in Oz you can visit any doctor without having to register with them, unlike UK). Will get back to you as soon as I can find it!

Hiya, I'm an Aussie, still living in the U.K, but am on my way home. I had a dentist some 6 yrs back in Melbourne called Dr. Laurence Wordsworth or Lorry for short. He did extensive work on my teeth and I must say I was very pleased with the results. He was rather expensive but not as expensive as some. He was/is situated around 2 Collins St, City (not quite sure of the number). That whole corner of Collins street seemed to be hosting many mouth practitioners. Maybe check it out. Hope this is of some use.

Hi Helen
My dentist was as follows:
Timol M A
121 William St Melbourne VIC 3000
ph: (03) 9621 1343

VLV - you're not wrong about Collins St - I just had to search on yellow pages for the above phone number - there are 238 dentists listed in Melbourne 3000 and I reckon 90% are on Collins St!!

Thanks! that's really helpful. After living in small town Maine, sometimes the choice here is a bit of a problem. Where to start? !?

Will check out the dentist today and let you know how I get on.

Helen

I was going to ask you if you wouldn't mind doing just that.

As I have an ongoing 'Venice-in-Peril' type situation with my teeth, I'll no doubt be on the look out for one sometime soon after we arrive, I guess.

Good luck........!

Anya.
