Is this a good deal for an Australian Honda car?
Dear All,
I'm moving to Perth for 1 year in Jan 05 and have been offered this
car by a colleague in Perth - is this a good deal (description below)
and is it a suitable car for a year in Perth?
How easy will it be for me to sell it quickly at the end of the year
and how much should I expect to get for it 1 year later?
Thanks for any advice
Simon
"1995 Automatic Honda Accord VTI, 2.2 litre, Air Con,Cruise control,
Electric windows and sunroof, Alloy wheels, and spoiler
etc...110,000km on the clock - again good for its age.
I paid $14000 for it, I am selling it for $11750. It runs well, and I
can only say that it gave me no problem at all this year. A few
scratches at the back and a small dent otherwise good body work and no
rust. I attach a photo."
The photo shows a red 4 door car in nice looking condition.

Doesn't sound TOO pricey but not a bargain either? Look at www.carsales.com.au to get a comparison? remember it is a 10 year old car...
Offer him 9.5 or 10k and see what he says would be my 10 cents worth? But there is no comparison better than your own research....

Does sound on the higher end of the price scale, especially w/ scratches and dent. I ran the car on www.redbook.com.au (the equivilent of the US kelley blue book which prices out used car values)
for manual: $8600-11100
for auto: 9300-11900
I would definitely negotiate towards the lower scale. He would make even less trading it in. Do the search for models 1 yr older to find around what you could make for it in a yr.

Side track a bit, I notice that news cars are cheap in Australia (as compares to where I am staying now, Malaysia). But not for used cars.

I know I'm not comparing like with like as such, but we bought our 1996 Ford Mondeo from a dealer in 2002 when we arrived for $10,000 cash. It's a 2 litre engine, automatic, aircon etc. It doesn't have electric windows or sunroof, but I would think that he's just trying it on a bit with you being "a cashed up pom"....offer him WAY less would be my advice. Also check out some of the car dealerships over here first and see what they have in that price range to get an idea before you commit yourself.
www.drive.com.au should start you off.
Good luck
