Default Good Beaches?

This has to be wrong the UK has beaches ,well I never?

A record number of UK beaches have been awarded Blue Flags for cleanliness.
The European award for well-managed beaches has been given to 105 beaches this year - almost twice as many as in 2000.

Shhh! don't tell everybody - what are you trying to do?? ruin the rest of the UK. We all know every beach in the UK look likes Blackpool, all beaches are crowded (everywhere is crowded in the UK - don't go there please - it's all like the SE) - keep everyone on the beaches in the the SE for gawds sake.

Camber sands has a great beach (e.sussex). It gets too busy for me in the summer (not really a sunbathey, lounge around on it, type beach person anyway), but is great to walk along in the winter.

Best beaches ive ever been to in the uk were those either in cumbria or south wales....the ones around st davids head are really good.

Best beach i've ever been too......without shadow of a doubt, the coorong in SA, closly followed by cape banks, also in SA.

No ive never been to either of those....ill stick em on my loong list of places to visit!

My in-laws own a beach shack at gerloff bay near Carpenter rocks. That bay has an ok beach, but the snorkling is out of this world. Abalone and crays everywhere!!! We cook em in the shak tho Only problem is the stingrays in december/january, they use the bay to meet up before moving offshore to breed. Although they ar'nt agressive, things can get a bit err...interesting when u are snorkling and scrabbling around on the bottom, turn to surface and see 15 odd rays cruising above you !!!

I'll never forget standing in the shallows washing my mask out while the wife started snorkling out. I looked up and saw a HUGE dark shape heading her way (looked at least 5 foot wingspan). I called out a few times but she did'nt hear me. they must have got to within a metre before Susan saw it. The next thing i knew she had stopped dead, did a few little mad flippy things turned around and scarpered quicker than ive ever seen her wim before! The ray, completly unphased just carried on as if nothing had happened.

loved your story
i went to the maldives (indian ocean) last year (honeymoon), i had never been snorkiling in my life, my new husband persuaded me to try and oh my god i got hooked, it was the most wonderful experience of my life (except for kids, wedding and getting a degree this year, but you know what i mean!) one day i was minding my own buisness snorkling over a coral reef, when i literaly came face to face with a moiry eel the size of a house (well, it was big) as i scuttled away a 3 foot reef shark popped out beind a rock, i didn't know which way to turn!
but it didn't put me off, and needless to say and to my new husbands disappointment i spent more time in the sea bed than the honey moon bed!

bring on perth and the barrier reef, my snorkles ready and waiting!!

MM,

You ever snorkled at port noarlunga?

Gets pretty busy being so clode to adelaide, but the reef running parallel to the beach is great.

Try South Wales the waters very livable warmed by the Gulf Stream , you have lived in the Midlands far too long.
By the way you will get bored of beach life very quick in Perth less than 5% of the population bother, watch out for sharks.
Read your big ideas about opening a cafe in Perth good luck the Asians will have you out of business in less than a year.
Forget the East Coast if you live in Perth costs an arm and a leg to fly there.

Agree about the cold of the water in the UK, but not about the total lack of fish, my friend back in the Uk who emails me his "catches" - have caught some beatuies recently, Tope (shark)and sea bass.

Aus is very good for diving and such Wobbegongs (carpet shark) and stripies are very common on Straddie in the shallows (waist deep)
What is also good here in Aus - is to set up a big saltwater tank (I've got a 6 foot tank)and collect fish from the sea - I've had in mine; Bream, Flathead, blue stingray, Trumpeters, stripey's, (catch them in a cast net mostly - and some by hook) - puffer fish! (told hubby to get that back out! ugly thing - puffer not hubby )

P.s link for some of the fishes/sea life in Britain which is quite interesting reading -

well pb who needs sharks when you can come on here and get attacked!!!
re: my cafe/ bar idea was just an idea and like a true pom, i would specialise in catering for poms! i.e full english breakfast, tea and scones (home made) meat and 3 veg, shepards pie etc, but above all, if there was a need to cater for ethnic minorities too, i would do so. you have to be inovative and flexable to surrive any where in the world.
ps i have only lived in mids for half of my life, trust me i have been arround!!!
