Default Golf in NZ ?????

Does anyone have any information about golf in NZ (ie. best places to play, club membership costs, green fee costs etc)? I have heard that golf is still relatively new out there so I'm guessing there aren't too many courses ??????

My wife and I are seriously considering emigrating to NZ but let's get the priorities right !!!!

I have played Golf in NZ. The municiple course I played on was OK (quite challenging) apart from a veterans day which we weren't told about. This was our first hand experience of a rude kiwi (rarely heard of). He teed off whilst we were still on the fairway. We were planning on letting him play through at the next tee anyway.
Then he kicked off big style because we weren't quick enough I had a go at him for nearly taking hubby's head off with a golf ball.
There are some good courses in NZ. Fees etc. can't really help as I can't remember. I suggest just doing a search on google.nz.

Thanks, Jo.

Were you living there at the time or just visiting ? Since creating this topic I've managed to find a lot of info on the web. I have to say, some of the courses look really nice.

Thanks again.

Green fees in Dunedin are NZD10-20 for non-members. They make a point of saying visitors are very welcome. I guess you will always come across some old school types who don't like to see a new face but the younger lot should be friendly enough.

I'm a terrible golfer, but have always felt welcome at golf course in NZ. I've only played about a dozen times in my life, but no one seems to mind me hacking my way around the course.

usually about $10-$25 depending on the location of course.

golf courses are everywhere in NZ - never really looked for them in the UK, but my impression is that there are many more than in the UK (I never see hardly any in comparison).

Never figured why NZ doesn't produce many world champion golfers, as it is a very popular sport in NZ, if not the most popular.

Not sure about it be 'new' in NZ - I suppose compared to Scotland it is!

Dunno much about golf - seems a silly game to me - but I so know there are courses everywhere in NZ. My neice lives in Arrowtown - her hubby's family are golfers in a big way - all involved in the industry one way or another. Her husband is greenkeeper at Arrowtown course on the South Island.

Everywhere and well priced. Not that I play but everyone else seems to.

Even have one out near us in the bays next to the yacht club (which I do use!)
