Question The Gold Coast in winter?

Hi everyone.
We are heading over to the gold coast in June and we were just wondering have we made an error in going in the winter?
We are going with our 3 kids, but we are going to be fed up if it is going to be cold and miserable. I have friends we are going to see and he says it is still reasonably warm but probably a bit cold for swimming, and maybe need coats of a night.
We are just looking for reassurrance really that we are doing the right thing going then, and hoping there will still be loads to do.

Thanks for any pointers

Dicko,

Dagboy says that Gold Coast winter equates to UK summer. Hes been here 3 years, wears a sweater maybe half a dozen times in a winter. Cold & miserable? NO idea where you would get that idea from! Daytime temps will be in the low 20s (21-23) evening temps in the mid teens (15-16) & overnight lows (usually around 5am) will be in the high single figures (8-9 degrees). Only a very small chance of any rain. Not quite sure why you would think that there wouldnt be anything to do? Its not like the UK where everything closes for 4 months of the year.

In fact there are more tourists here in winter than there are in summer .

You probably would be alot worse off if you came in our summer, then you probably wouldnt want to come back

Hiya Dicko,
I think once you experience the high temps it gets in their summer then winter would feel cold to them.

But comming from the UK their winter is like our summer.

An illustration of this was on Billie Conily's tour of Oz, he found the swimming pool closed. There he was sweating in his shorts & shirts, only to be told it was winter!

Bye
Mark

Hi Dicko

We are going over there on 13 May so we are wanting to know about the weather also. Which part of the coast have you decided to live and why? We are undecided as yet until we get out there. We are trying to get an apartment to rent for approx the first two months and will then buy a house if we can?

Where are you from in UK? We are from the Wirral.

Regards
Gary

At the height of winter - this was beginning August - I recall wearing a very thin fleece at about 10pm when setting up Karoke equipment outside in Brissy.

They get more visitors from the southern latitudes of Australia, where many of the backpackers move to Brissy and anywhere further north to escape the night cold.

I recall getting on a train at 4am at Coffs Harbour freezing cold - (halfway from Brissy to Sydney) and it was fine the next day in Brissy.

Mrs D - I laughed at your low and recalled this: the day is often coldest say, an hour after sunrise as the ambient temperature has been dropping all night and it takes time for the rising sun to actually effect the temperature and recover it back upwards. Anyone who has ever camped will recall how cold they feel when they get out of their dossbag to have a piss at 7am in the morning.

Badge, yep, you're right, 5am is probably a bit early in winter, more likely to be a bit later than that since the sun rises later.

Still - evenings are hardly coat weather here in Brisbane .

Well not coats like in the UK anyway! :scared:

Talk about coincidence :scared: we are from Wirral too(Prenton)

We currently have a state sponsorship from Victoria but are still undecided whether to go? if we do, we plan on going up to the Gold Coast after the 2 years, or if we love it we'll stay in Victoria.
Anyway we are going to see friends who live in Helensvale and they have said we can stay with them.
Really looking forward to it.

Try this site for Rentals, it is quite useful for suburb descriptions as well:
