Default Gold Coast schools - deciding by end of month

Hello all,

We have just booked our flights for 22nd January!!!

Now comes the most important part of the move, choosing schools. This is our number 1 priority and from that will come decisions on where to live etc.

I have in mind Assisi (Coomera) and Helensvale High School. Also Upper Coomer State High School might get consideration. I hope to have a look around these schools when we arrive.

I was wondering if anybody on BE can throw in their thoughts/experiences at this point please? In particular I would like to hear opinions about the academic benefits of the schools and the travelling situation via public transport to areas like Coomera, Helensvale, Pac Pines.

Any help gratefully accepted,

Ren

UCSC has been mentioned a lost in the past - seems to be good for primary but not so positive with elder children. Check out some threads by Paulandnic. I liked the look of Helensvale High when we first arrived but we bought at the bottom of the coast. Know nothing about Assisi.

Thank you both for your replies. My friend has a 14 year old son at Helensvale High and he also is doing very well. However, I have heard of other parents not being too happy with it.

When we chose a secondary school for my son here there were 2 excellent grammar schools to choose from. We walked into the 1st and I just knew that Jack would not be happy there. Its funny isn't it that you just get a feeling for these things?

So I am hopeful that the same instincts will kick in when we look at schools in Australia, but it would be good to get as much advice as possible in advance.

Thanks again,
Ren
