Gold Coast school performance records and mortgages
Hi,
We're not sure if this topic has been covered on this site as we are new to this forum and haven't navigated around it completely; so apologies if this has been covered elsewhere.
We are leaving for the Southern part of the Gold Coast on the 23 Aug, and are trying to determine which are the best state primary schools in the area. But we can't find any performance ratings produced from one official body on the net, (like OFSTED here). Can anybody tell us if such bodies exist? who they are? If they don't , how do you establish which is a good school before arriving in Aus?
Also on another subject - Can you get a mortgage in Queensland without a job using just the equity from our property in England or do you need to be employed in Aus for a certain period of time?
Any advise will be really appreciated, as time is rapidly running out on us and suddenly there's so many things to do!

No performance tables, certainly not for primary anyway. High schools usually publish something at the end of each year saying how many stsudents got the top mark. Most state primaries are fine in Australia anyway. Choose any and then research high schools. As to mortgages, I don't believe any bank would give an unemployed new immigrant a mortgage. Do you have enough money to buy a small flat outright, then keep it as an investment later on?

Thanks for your help, it'll save us alot of time looking for something that doesn't exist - one more thing to strike off the list! With regard to the mortgage, thanks for the thought - one more thing to add to the list!

If your UK property is producing a taxable income, it may be taken into account by an Australian Lender, when determining how much you can repay, to calculate what they will lend.
Some Australian lenders will permit a mortgage after the first pay slip.
Worth using a broker to help find the right lenders for this.

Hi
Welcome to the forum
There are lots of good schools on the coast, depends what your looking for, as there are religious schools and schools that offer more than others in the way of sports, try this site, it lets you see all the schools on the gold coast
www.bcl.com.au/goldcoast/schools.htm.
Not sure about the morgage part, think most banks will want you to have employment first, but its always worth a try. You will love living on the Gold Coast, it's a fantastic place to live especially with kids.
Good luck with the move
