gold coast info needed please
hi my wife and i will be moving to the gold coast with 2 small kids age 3 and the youngest 4 months old.
we have been looking at robina or varsity lakes to move to however we are concerned about the crime rate, is it as bad as the media makes out?
the other worry are the floods, howbadly do these places flood?
any info on these matters would be great
thanks

Which bit of the Gold Coast are you looking at - its a huge area and as with most areas of this size some parts are worse than others.

As for crime, we just caught the Sydney news & the stuff that happens there seems far worse, but then again its a much bigger town. Certainly crime seems far less than any UK city, but it the main topic of the news.
As for floods, Gold Coast has had virtually none (touch wood), Brisbane is a different story though!
Why Robina & V Lakes? I'm sure they're nice but if you move to the Gold Coast, why go so far from the main attraction, i.e. the coast?

Parts of Robina are basically minutes away from the beach!
Like anywhere there have been a couple of bad incidents but crime and Robina don't really end up in the same sentence.
If the Crime rate in Robina is going to worry anybody they are not going to feel safe anywhere.
As for flooding the council flood maps online are extremely interesting and show individual houses so it is easy to avoid those areas where water will one day be a problem.
I would say that for people who actually live on the Gold Coast the fear of crime is pretty low.

We also have a white van parked at work in Nerang of all places so pretty vulnerable to be honest and it has not been touched in 6 years. I doubt there is anywhere in the UK, sleepy town or otherwise where some little toerags from the local estate would not have had a go.
