Oranges or apples - which one do you prefer?

Totally differerent places. Not that I've been to Darwin but everything I've read and seen would make me assume that you're either a GC type or a Darwin type. Do you like major humidity? Or some not so bad humidity for a couple of months? Do you like easy accessibility to other state capitals or happy to be fairly isolated unless you're off to Malaysia? The list is endless. Have a look at WMoore's blog. He lived in Brissie, then did a road trip but got caught up in a job in Darwin, was there a while and then back to Brissie. I think he has a fair bit to say about Darwin but can't be sure because it's a fair while since I read it.

I've lived in Darwin since 2006 and was down near the GC for 5 weeks. Personally I love Darwin because of the weather and the relaxed lifestyle up here. Wearing shorts and t-shirt year round suits me.

I must confess that I was surprised to see people shoping in pyjamas round the Gold Coast though - at least in Darwin we wear 'going out' shorts and singlets (vests) most of the time

Seriously though, give Darwin a go mate, if you don't like it after a year at least you can move on. If you don't go, you'll never know
