Default Gold Coast crime up 11%

More bad stats for crime on the GC details
Scratch the glitzy surface of the Gold Coast and you find a substantial criminal underclass who see the 5% of rich flaunting their materialistic excesses and combined with a big drug problem and easy access to guns makes a perfect storm of rising crime.
I have lived and owned a business on the GC for 6 years and have seen a major change in that time. Our shop has had 3 break ins in the last 2 years, and armed robberies are almost nightly reported. Under resourced police are struggling to keep up and IMO there is no end in sight to the downward spiral the GC is in

The whole time we lived in Queensland we always thought of the GC as being a pretty high crime area, Surfers Paradise especially could be a no go zone after dark. Many of the areas away from the coast are very different of course.
Break ins and armed robberies were reaching absurd levels just before we left and the Police seemed powerless to stem the tide. As I say though away from the tacky touristy areas it is very different.

Seems like there has been a Qld wide jump in crime rather than something Gold Coast specific. I saw it written somewhere else today that crime rates in Central Brisbane are higher than on the GC.

I dont know what causes those sorts of crimes to increase like that, robberies, muggings etc I can understand because jobs are hard to come by but sexual crimes, assaults etc make no sense.

They won't. They've always happened. Population grows, number of scumbags grows as well. It would help if we had more police officers on the ground and if the courts treated them as they should be treated but it's never going to stop.

Worrying thing is that the GC population is falling as people try to find work in other areas.

People may be leaving to look for work but others are still arriving.

Everyone I've heard of who's moved to find work, have left the family behind and they come back at weekends. Obviously many do upsticks but not as many as I would have thought. Maybe they don't want to sell up 'just in case'.

Pretty meaningless comparing number of crimes vs residents in party areas given the massive hordes who descend into central Brisbane and to a lesser extent Surfers ?
