Default Gold Coast: best place to see wild roos etc?

Hi guys,

I havent been living here on the gold coast very long, and have perhaps a daft question: is there anywhere around the Gold Coast area (or hinterland) where you can see wild kangaroos and other assorted wildlife running (hopping) around?

My 2 sons are coming over for a holiday at the end of the month, and I would like to know the best places to take them to see true blue aussie wildlife.

I have cane toads sorted, (those ugly brutes are in our back garden every night). I am also sorted for redbacks and other assorted spiders. Dolphins are also sorted, I have seen them swimming off the Spit

Many thanks

Trev

Lamington National Park which is just inland from the Gold Coast, near Canungra - drive up to the lookout and the hotel at O'Reillys, and you will see hundreds! I kid you not!!!

Here comes the obvious free plug for Steve Irwin's 'Australia Zoo' at Beewah, about 1.5hrs North of Brisbane, just off the Bruce Highway. Can walk around and pat very tame Kangaroos etc. Photos with Python, baby 'Gators and Koalas. Very touristy however, and pricey but is very interesting. Smaller zoos around Brisbane, Alma Park(Northside), Lone Pine Sanctuary(Western suburbs).

If you like sea creatures, try Underwater World at Mooloolaba. If game you can feed the sharks(food provided by UW and accompanied by trained staff) in the main tank or walk through recreated habitat. Very well concieved.
