Default GOING OZ SEP, GOT 12WHV NOW I NEED TRAVEL INSURANCE HEEELLLLPPP

I have been comparing travel insurance and i'm soo confused its a mind field. I'm travelling to Thailland next mth for a mth then on to Oz to work/travel. I just want inexpensive compentant insurance, one company that advertised as gap year travel said my insurance would be void if i worked , useful! Another has said that the policy does not cover any claim - for medical treatment in Australia unless i have registered for Medicare and used Medicare services. As i understand 'by googling' I cannot register for Medicare until i get to Oz and i'm not sure if i'm entilitled to reg as a british cit, info on net is very vague. Basically is there much point getting this insurance because as far as i'm aware treatment under Medicare is free anyway... isn't it? If anyone has any info on Medicare or rec any good gap yr travel insurance please help, i'm running out of time. Thanks Sooo much Sarah

Hi Sarah - keep calm and don't panic! You'll definitely need insurance, the reciprocal health agreement between the UK and Australia only covers treatment that's deemed essential/emergency. I'm sure people will be along to suggest particular policies/insurers, I'll have a squizzy for you myself - after I've made a coffee

Have a read through this, there's some links to follow as well. This info is from the Australian Immigration website, and is tailored to people on a WHV.

It may be worth checking these two:

Backpackertravelinsurance.com
EssentialTravel.co.uk/travelinsurance

The backpacker one quotes:

Backpackertravelinsurance.com insures your trip all way around the world. We understand the needs of the independent traveller and our backpacker travel insurance will cover your travels on an adventure trip or on working holidays.

We cover the widest range of hazardous activities (over 60) for free!! From bungee jumping to white water rafting, scuba diving to pony trekking...

Hi Sarah! I usually use Globelink when I need travel insurance, check out their backpacker policy here - http://www.globelink.co.uk/policy-op...insurance.html
If you do not like them here is a list of other insurers for you - http://www.globespots.com/travelinsurance_uk.php
