going early
hi everyone.we wondered if anyone has moved to oz before they got their visas.if so how did you go about it.we are thinking of doing it.we have put in our forms for permanent residency but it could take 8 months or longer:thumbdown:.we just want go as soon as.we would also need to do our meds over there if its possible.any help would be very much appreciated

So assuming the risk factor financially was acceptable that you don't get a visa grant and are forced to return to the UK, you would basically be here on a tourist visa which is for a max of 6 months (3 for an ETA which you then extend).
Unable to work at all for up to year on your tourist visa, having to leave the country to renew a visa at least once and again having to leave again to be offshore and have your visa put in your passport at an Australian embassy makes that, if nothing else, hideously expensive travel wise. You cannot be in the country when your visa grant happens (for most visa types). I know somebody who did it with about 2 months left to run in the guestimate on how long visa processing would take and had to go to NZ and get the visa put into the passport there. At this stage, it would just be unacceptably expensive to me and too bigger risk for impatience if I had a family to worry about. |
