Re: God give me STRENGTH!
I have a young family these days so I do supplement my income with some more reliable income. But yes I do it for a living and show / sell work.
Looking for a new house that has a good workshop arrangement out the back at the moment.
You mention your parents were artists. Thing these things run in families I think as my Grandfather and father were both artists.
Melbourne has a good art scene anyway.

That's great that you sell your work. Unfortunately there isn't huge amounts of money in it unless your names Banksy. you're not Banksy are you?
I'd love to be able to sell mine, I've never tried yet. I'll hopefully give it a shot when I'm in Melbourne, and if I can't sell it there, then I'll never sell it.
Yep it's a family thing for me too, my brothers are excellent at art, drawing in particular. Much better than me, although they don't really bother with it nowadays, they are all older than me and have business to run and family's etc..
My dads parents were also creative but in different ways, so creativity definitely breeds creativity.
Did you study it at college?

I am an artist and I live in Sydney Chippendale in Sydney has many private galleries and the modern art gallery at circular quay and the NSW gallery are in sperate buildings but combined they match the main gallery in Melbourne which houses modern and traditional together.
Maybe not Melbourne's level yet in this area but we are fast catching up.

Molly you could spend hours at the Arts Centre precinct south of the river: there is a cluster of halls and recital theatres. The National Gallery of Victoria is always a good one.
I'm a Tenor singing classical/choral and I love every minute of it.
If you like sport there is a sports precinct for football, rugby and soccer. 2 amazing stadiums including the MCG within walking distance of the Cbd and also Ethiad stadium on the other side. It's really quite amazing: 3 stadiums within a few k.

Trust me there is no football spectacle more boring for a fence sitter, than a one sided thrasing in Aus Rules.
Real 'professional' fooball is basically in it's infancy here, having been plagued for years by entrenched ethnic division... Croation teams/Maltese Teams/Greek Teams/Macedonian and never the twain shall meet so to speak. It all changed about 9 years ago when the FFA threw out any ethnic allegincies with it's national league. Consequently football is now growing at a quantam rate in Aus as everyone feels they can follow their local team. So give the A league a go as well. They play at opposite times of the year to the Aus Rules.

Re: God give me STRENGTH!
I was taken to a Swanies games and was advised I would love it and never look back.
The best the atmosphere got was-
Swanies clap clap clap
Swanies clap clap clap
Swanies clap clap clap
This was their only song / chant
There was an old lady sat across the aisle knitting and an old fella further down doing that thing where you are almost falling asleep and your head falls forwards and wakes you up again....repeat 10 times.
It was soul destroying in every way possible.

They call it GayFL at my son's college, I suspect in part because of all the cat fights that inevitably occur during each game.

Once I'd watched 10 mins of fit young men in tight shorts and tops, I started to lose interest. But then I much prefer swimming!!

Re: God give me STRENGTH!
I've been to about 10 Aus Rules games in my time here, never took to it though. Apparently I've been "unlucky" with the games I've chosen to attend. They've either been wrestling low scoring slogs in the rain, where it's more by luck that someone scores, or one siding thrashings.

I have to admit that soccer can be just as pedestrian with the ball going backwards and forwards...the fans do get very worked up...it is a low scoring affair.
