Does anyone know how easy it is to buy gluten free food in oz either in a supermarket or eating out? It's really difficult to eat out in the uk but can get most gf food on prescription. any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

We are in Melbourne and I've already noticed a couple of restaurants have a * or GF written on the menu next to gluten free options. When I ate out recently I was even able to order calamari-in UK it's always covered in batter but here it was chargrilled-so perfect

The supermarkets all seem to have a dietary specials sections with GF pasta, crackers, bread (which is much nicer than the bread I used to get in UK-more like "normal" bread!), cookies, flour, pancake mix etc so that's not a problem at all.

I work with a woman who is GF but she seems to make quite a song and dance out of getting stuff which is GF - I think it may be something to do with the oneupmanship with the work colleague who is a dairy free vegetarian (going out to eat with them is a martyrish nightmare!). However, that aside, looks to me as if there are lots of options and there are more and more GF cakes on show than ever before. Restaurants seem to be quite on top of requests to make meals GF and the supermarkets have a range of options.

I worked with a coeliac lady in London who was also an Aussie. It is about a gazillion times easier to get GF food both in supermarkets and in restaurants/cafes in Oz.

Vast majority of restaurants I've been in have definitely had GF against several items. Don't know about shops because I don't need to look for the stuff.
