Default Getting a Job on a 457

Hi,

I've had a look through the immi website and immigration section and done a few searches plus posted on the 457 thread but can't seem to find out. Realise its a how longs a piece of string question but...

how difficult is it to get a job offer from an oz company willing to sponsor on a 457? I'm in IT, specialism in Java and when i apply i'll have a degree and a years experience.

also do you need the acs skills assesment. ie 4 years experience?

Thanks in advance for any help.

As far as I know, you don't need the formal skills assesment for the 457...but my company did submit all my certificates etc as part of their application and so did I with my application.

Sorry - about the availability of jobs in your area, don't know. Your new degree and one year experiance would suggest that you are not a 'mature' student, so would your best route be not some kind of working holiday visa etc, I think you'd find it a lot easier to find a sponsoring company if you were here in Oz.

I work here on an e457 visa.

I was offered a job as a permanent employee without ever having set foot in Australia. I've since left that company and had to wait 3 weeks for a new visa to be issued to the holding company I now work for.

If you have employable skills in the UK, you will be able to get work here. The year's experience may be the only thing that counts against you.

I can't say fro definite but I reckon you'd have no problem getting work over here mate. I work in IT sales and I'm waiting for a visa to be granted in IT recruitment role. It can be a long and frustrating process but I'd recommend getting yourself on the radar with your CV and making up a list of potential employers and contacting them directly.

In my case, having a degree meant I didn't need the experience although that may not apply in all cases.

Thank you all for your replies. Very helpful, wanted to know whether it was going to be worth all of the effort and grief of applying to jobs accross the other side of the world if it was never going to happen. So your replies have given me the extra boost i needed, thanks a lot.

Also by the year counting against me i'm assuming you mean the fact that its ONLY a year?
