We took an HSBC visa card as soon as we arrived, we have a limit of $5000, to get this all we had to do was take out a 1 year term deposit of $5000! at least we are getting 5.35% interest. I like the way that interest on your savings aren't taxed at source like in the UK.

St Georges standard keycard also functions as a visa card (without the credit facility). This is useful as you can use it as a standard visa card (assuming you have the money in your account), or just as a standard EFPOS card.

Hitting the credit account button, rather than the savings account button when using it as an EFPOS also avoids transaction charges, though you cannot get cash out from the supermarket (or whereever) when using the CR button
