Getting a credit card in Aus

Hi folks,

Just wondering what peoples experiences are in getting a credit card over here? I.e. how easy?

Just applied for one and it got 'referred'.

Earn more than enough for it and and have been with employer for four years. Have PR but counting against I think is that we've only been renting in current address for 9 months and have moved twice in 3 years before that. Also don't have Aus drivers licence (only got PR a month ago). Also have no other credit aside from phone contracts etc.

Is the lending criteria pretty strict? Or would you generally expect that to be OK?

Not a fan of credit cards as such and only want it to pay for flights back to UK. It's a rewards card and got some good extras on it. Worth about $350 after taking off the annual fee.

Hi, I think you'll be fine. Credit card applications are often referred while they check your employment with your company HR. This is my experience anyway. Usually takes a day or two and then you should get an email with your 'success'!

I had no issues getting a credit card as a PR with regular house moves and fairly new employment history.

Best of luck.

Some do, some don't - as always, shop around for the deal that best suits you...

There are a few websites thatdo reasonable comparisons of what credit cards are available. This is one I have been using recently...
Credit Card Comparison | Compare Credit Cards at Credit Card Finder

I've also used this site to check my credit rating. It's free.
