Default Getting around Brisbane CBD

Hi there

DH has interviews in Brisbane CBD on Friday. We were wondering is there a central place for parking and where would you reccommend? What are the parking charges? He will have to cross the William Jolly Bridge, can you walk across this bridge? How long do you think it will take to drive from the international airport to Grey Street at 7.30am? He has got an interview at 8.30am is he allowing himself enough time?

Or the other option we can think of is there a train that goes from the airport to the CBD

TIA

Brisbane is like any other big city to get around....even worse if you are not familiar with it.

IME traffic can be a nightmare at peak times.....parking can be expensive like anywhere.

the train might be a much easier option.

Get the Airtrain from the airport into the city, much the better option if you don't know your way around.

Thanks for that just googled airtrain and definitely seems the best option.

Is there anywhere you can reccommend staying for one night either in CBD or near airport that also doesnt cost too much? We have looked at different places but a lot of them say they have minimum stay periods.

For just a place to sleep, Hotel Formule 1, Brisbane Airport.

The airport hotel Formule 1 is about 15-20 minute taxi ride from the airport . The airport is 30 minutes taxi from city. airtrain is a good idea - its air conditioned.

wotif.com.au has late room avaialbility at huge discounts

I"d stay inthe CBD rather than at Formule 1 - because at formule1 or outside the cbd your food options are limited and evening entertainment is limited, you'll end up sopending more to eat/go for beer. If you stop inthe city there are plenty of cheaper places to eat and go for a beer or sight see. There are plenty of low cost hotels on the southbank - which is william jolly bridge -that'd be a godo place to sleep , plenty of bars, restaurants, fast food and stuff to see.

1 hour to get that distance.
I'd actually be allowing MORE time to get there, if he wants to make an 8.30 appointment, and not be late. If he left airport at that time of day during the week, he will need more than 1 hour to get to South Brisbane. All he needs is the flight delayed, a delay on the train and the frequent traffic jams in the Roma St to South Brisbane run, and he'll be late.

I reckon he'd do the trip distance in an hour, but it's the extra hour driving round trying to find somewhere to park that would be the killer

I'm factoring in flight, car/train/taxi collection and and traffic delays into the equation, but then some think the airport is near the CBD when they make appointments. Never thought of parking.

Parking on Riverside Drive is still free and plentiful.

I'll make a note of that, for myself. I don't drive into Brisbane enough to find out these things.

The top end (north) is closed off while they;re constructing the Hayle Street bridge, but you can still get access via Jane Street.

Thanks for all your replies it has been most helpful, he is going to get the train in and not worry about the added expense now of getting a car and worrying about parking.

Just one more question can you get across the river at Grey Street William Jolly bridge on foot. TIA

Yes. You could also change trains at Roma Street and travel to South Bris Stat.
