Nice weather today. Had a paddle out but the rail and my thigh had a falling out. Fortunatley for the board the thigh has been trashed and nothing happened to the rail. Unfortunately for me that was the end of the session.

Ouch! Now how many others here know what the rail is?

The rail is the side edge of the board. At first I had a dead leg which is a bit disconcerting when hovering around the point 4 foot waves are dumping on your head. I tried going back out when he deadness had gone but the agility had gone and I did another wipe out. After what felt like a minute (probably on 20s) my head popped out of the water for air.

All part of the fun. Have you had a lesson yet Renth?

I knew about rails from windsurfing. The lesson is Saturday and Sunday morning at Trigg. I hope there is some sort of swell.

They tend to teach you on soft foam boards (heavy but easy to paddle) on broken waves. Try and get on a fibre glass board ASAP as it is a step up in difficulty and fun.

My mate is going to lend me the larger of his 2 fibreglass boards, then we're off to "the spot" near Yanchep, north of Perth.

Which is where I'll die probably...

Spring definitely on the way here in NZ....clocks went forward last weekend, so still nice and light when we finish work...nothing like a cold beer after a hard days slog <buurp!>

Roll on summer days
