Visited both, very briefly, on a recent reccie - both about an hour from Melbourne.
Mornington was much greener, hilly and prettier in my opinion. Lovely villagey feel with shops and restaurants etc.
Geelong, a separate city, was very very windy (probably not always like that). Felt more open and had much bigger shopping centre.

Personally I really liked Mount Eliza area.

I'm Geelong born and bred.

Each peninsular has a different feel.

Geelong/Bellarine peninsular: it's easier to get to Melb CBD, cheaper than Mornington Pen. Yep, it can be quite windy at times....and it's not called sleepy hollow for nothing. Have kids? Deakin uni is handy. (Aussie kids are more likely to live at home when at uni rather than travel elsewhere)

hmmm.... what else....closer to Avalon airport.. from where Jetstar flies.

ohhhhhhhhh I hated Geelong, the OH was working there for 10 days while we went for our reecie in June, dont know much about Mornington, but If needed to be near Geelong for work, I was told that Highton I think that's how it spells, is the place to live.
sorry for being negative, we had such bad time, it put me off Melbourne too.

Our original plan was to move to the Bellarine Peninsula but we personally preferred Mornington when we visited. But if my husband could only find a job in/near to Geelong then I'd be happy to live on the Bellarine Peninsula, we saw lots of lovely places. Can you not keep an open mind and decide when you've had chance to see which you prefer? Not sure which field of work you are looking at for job opps. Try posting on Britvics as well because I know there are lots of people from Mornington but have defintely read posts by someone living close to Geelong.

Good luck!

Sounds like what we did. We preferred the Mornington Pen and are now in Mt. Eliza. Being in Mt. Eliza means we have the benefit of being in a smaller, quieter area but we are still close to all the amenities of Mornington and Frankston.

hi
I really liked Mount Eliza when we visited but we didn't have time to go to Mornington and Mount Martha (?). Are they similar to Mount Eliza?

Not really, Mt. Eliza has a small central shopping area, post office, quite a few restaurants, a bar, a community centre, bowls, sailing and tennis club. One side is beach side and the village centre is on this side. The other side has larger blocks ofter 2/3rds of an acre etc. Many of the properties are surrounded by trees. Mt. Eliza is fighting expansion and wants to stay small. It's got a posh reputation but I've seen a good mix of people here.

I like Mornington and spend alot of time there. It's bigger & busier than Mt.Eliza with a 'High Street' which is called Main. St. It has been expanded and developed. It has a Centro shopping centre, lots of cafes, bars, restaurants etc. Many of the older properties on a plot are being sold knocked down and replaced by several units. There's a lot of new housing being built there at the moment & plans to make many central business properties and residential properties more than one storey high. Beaches are good & certainly plenty to do nearby. Belura Hill is seen as the good area to live.

Mt. Martha is just down the Peninsula from Mornington. It doesn't have the big high st. like Mornington but where the new housing estate is being built it has it's own shopping complex. I don't know a lot about Mt.Martha but it has a mix of an older areas and newly built developments. There are some good views and beaches. Martha Cove the big expensive mega bucks development is being built at the moment. Some of the land is on flat plains and some hilly with views.

Some of Frankston South is like Mount Eliza. The area around Humphries road & Overport Road are pretty good.

Any advice with regard Seaford? from people living nearby. We are interested in buying an investment rental which would also allow me to store my boat for easy access to the bay.

Heard it can be rough but did not seem so during our Sunday drive out there.

We were at Blairgowrie at the weekend. It looks pretty attractive down there. They have a boat club with quite a few large yachts stored there. Is that too far down the Peninsula for you?

Forget both. Move to Swan Hill in country Victoria.

Ignore that last comment. I lived there before and its a shithole.
Gelong is supposed to be nice.

Hi Caroline

The reason for Seaford is the potential capital growth post the Eastlink extention. Not discounting other areas will also be affected but potentially larger growth in Seaford.

You didn't work at the Swan Hill Institute of Technology (S.H.I.T.) by any chance?
