Gecko shit

We have quite a few ants in the house......as do most people here.

today I found, what I think is, some pieces of Gecko shit.

Within a few minutes the ants were all over it:ohmy:

I always wondered what the ants ate in the house.....now I think I know:confused:

Just thought you would like to know:)

We get quite a few geckos in the house, but until your post I had never contemplated their shit and the fact that they obviously would excrete. I'm not sure I want to think about this any more  :D

Re: Gecko shit

i'm always picking up Gecko poop. I don't hold it against them though as i love the little critters!!

The ants, though, we have had more than usual over the last few weeks so you may be onto something.
The ants here are hardcore, carry away huge cockroaches, bugs and cane toads...the other week we had a dead water dragon in the pool (again)! and we plopped the poor thing onto the grass, the next thing we knew there was an army of ants coming over and later that day the water dragon had gone!!!

FEAR THE ANTS!!!!

Same....we had geckos everywhere and I can't ever recall seeing anything I thought would be gecko shit....but I guess they must!

Maybe it does get eaten buy the ants before you have a chance to see it.

I knew I shouldn't come back to this thread - now I'm going to be looking for black marks on the wall and spending more time than is good for me thinking about it - it should have remained one of life's little mysteries :p

Re: Gecko shit

Our geckos never stay in the house long enough to crap anywhere. If we see them first they get caught and taken outside. If the cats see them its then a race between them and us as to who gets them first.......

No idea what gecko poo looks like

I haven't really but I can't see what else it could be.......it seems to appear where the Geckos hang out.

whatever it is the ants seem to love it:ohmy:

We have Geckos in the house, but have not seen much poo from them, I think the previous owners must have house trained them :)

We don't kick them out, they are excellent for eating the bugs that can get into house, despite the fly screens. We like the little buggers too, they add character to the house, like a nice old painting....

Do Gecko's make a noise? I have seen a few small gecko's outside the house and get the occasional one in the house. I keep hearing a "tut tut tut" like sound outside but when I look I can't see what is making the noise but there is usually a Gecko about. It's driving me mad as I don't know what it is. Any ideas?

Usually they make the noise when there is a territorial battle going on!!

I love our geckos - our population was decimated when we got a kitten but he's getting older and lazier now so there has been a rise in numbers lately.

My husband has just got home from work and has taken me out to see some gecko shit - I now know what it looks like and will take a photo for anyone interested tomorrow ... The things us newlyweds get up to !! :o

Little black specks (like fine tea leaf grounds) are Cockroach pooh, you will find it especially in corners and along wall parameters......get up in the middle of the night and switch on the lights to see the culprits.

Strangely enough there is absolutely no taboo about having cockroaches here....or head-lice on the kids......or fleas on the dog come to think. Your very much in the grip of Nature here and insects rule!

Back to the Gecko shit :p Geckos have two types of pooh (I'm pretty sure on this)....on the walls where they run,you get like a slash of watery brown pooh, but below places where they feel secure you'll get firm droppings. The firm dropping look much like mouse pooh, the only difference being a chalky white section on one end.

Happy pooh examining people! :D

 This is the second thread on geckos in as many weeks.

Unless the Asian diet leads to different poo, it's like a 1cm-ish bar (can't think of a better word) of mid-brown dried sludge.

There you go, much clearer now, I'm sure.

Geckos do make a noise; in Singapore they're also known as "chichak" (Malay word being "cicak") because of their sound.

oh but we only ever seem to have a rare cockie - we've been sprayed etc.

I did check last night in the loo which has the light left on at night for kids which is where most of it appears. At least some of it is actually some type of really tiny insect. close examination showed legs poking out of the black spots!

We seem to get stick insects. They are BIG like most bugs in Oz and as long as my hand and at least the width of my little fingure. I couldn't make out what it was so asked my neighbour who's an Ozzy.

It's body had like scales on it and as I say it was huge.

Holy crap. I think I'd shit a chicken if I saw one of them.

Oddly enough, my wife loves stick insects, we have some upstairs, but they are tiny (5 cm long things).

I quite like geckos though...do they bite or nip, cos im sure the kids would like them too.

I HATE GECKO SHIT, there is one little blighter that once i have bleached my worktops and moved into another room, a while later i come back and he has pooed on my worktop. And as for the shit down the walls ...............:curse:
When we first moved here we had two cockroaches and they were big buggers well they got stuck upside down for some reason and left poo or piss every where.

No worse than toddlers except for the fact that the piss-puddle and poo are larger....

Yes that is very true. :)
Nothing worse than being able to tell what your toddler has had for dinner

SCORPIONS REALLY !!
Do you really get scorpions in your house, how the F..... do they get in.

Kooky. Feb 3rd 2009 8:59 am

Re: Gecko shit

 Had two scorpions in Singapore.

The first time, I didn't think it was one as I foolishly didn't know you get them there, but the cats were following it at a very respectful distance and it wasn't quick enough for a cockroach so I trusted their instincts and battered it to death. Even then I wasn't entirely convinced it was one as it was too bashed to be recognisable.

Having done my homework, I knew the second one was one and quickly did likewise - take no risks where my kits are concerned. I guess 2 in 6 years is not too bad but we didn't see any for 5 years and we were in that very urban house for 4 of the 6, so a bit puzzling.

These things always seemed to happen when my husband was off travelling, too. :(
