It's showing as 2.3753 on xe at the moment. I bet this is causing a great deal of excitement for a lot of people. Has been climbing steadily throughout the day. I just hope the trend continues (not that I have any money to change, but others have )

2.36 on tranzfers, just waiting for my money to hit and then I will exchange, possibly not till monday or tuesday. by then sods law says it will be down again. I have only got our last £7k to bring over (until the house sells next year) so not such an impact for us, but still a couple of hundred dollars could be lost.

Band of England minutes from the last meeting were released yesterday, it showed that 4 MPC members were against rate drop including Merv.
This tells the markets that the direction of UK interest rates is unlikely to be down and that as the US FED are raising theirs every meeting UK rates may well have to rise in tandem.
I have some money to change and will be buying at 2.42....although if I were changing a large amount up I would hedge 30-50% of it now.
Good luck

2.385 now. Long may the rise continue!

There are many factors such as the strength of UK/Aus economies and commodity prices but expectations of interest rates is probably the major one.

A month ago Aussie rates were expected to rise and UK ones fall several times each but both are now expected to be fairly steady or even go the other way.

It is effectively supply and demand. If Australia has high interest rates banks etc will move money there from the UK etc. So if more people want dollars those selling can charge more for them so you don't get as many and vice versa.

Default Re: Gbp=2.3747

Hi guys ... i'm useless when it comes to this exchange malarky ... I have 60k to transfer over from GBP to AUD. The exchange rate ... from what I can gather ... is at it's best since we were last out in April ... when it was near 2.48 ... as yet ... don't have an Oz bank account ... but as im moving there in November ... I can transfer the money into my sisters account ... can anyone advise on the best way to transfer with least amount of transaction fee's but yet to maximise on the exchange rate ???

cheers guys
