Default Gas/Electric and Water in Sydney

Hi Everyone

We are a 2 person family, going to be living in Sydney from Feb 2011.
We plan to live in a 2 bedroom apartment on the Northern Beaches.

I assume when renting, you have to pay Water, Electric and Gas on top of your rent?

Are utilities paid Monthly/Quarterly?

Can someone help advise what we should allow for utilities each bill period?

All help appreciated.

Becky

That will depend on what you use.
With water, you only pay for the consumption part, not the access costs.

Most are paid quarterly, although some I have seen get sent out every two months.

Checking electricity costs in each State, my personal annual bills (based on my actual consumption) would be:

ACT $1,528 to $1,793
NSW $1,809 to $2,172
QLD $1,741 to $1,956
SA $1,956 to $2,409
TAS $2,084 to $2,798
Vic $1,713 to $2,235
WA $2,026 to $2,657

We only have Electric, no Gas, and this is for a large house with pool.

Hopefully yours will be less than the above annual figures.
