Default Fruit

Out of interest i wondered what types of fruit were readily available in Australia?
Can you get strawberries ,rasberries, blueberries etc Didn't know if the climate was right to grow them or whether they were imported and expensive?
And are there any weird and wonderful Australian fruits that will be new to us?
Thanks Sunbound

all available in australia but seasonal and IMO not that nice. Plenty of fruit available here that is much nicer such as mango, pineapple, grapes, cherries, mangosteens and melons of all types. These are the fruit I find better here but again seasonal.

None..we are a nation of blood thirsty carnivores. Any fruit that does grow is eaten by kangaroos or confiscated by Quarantine.

mmm mangoes. New tradition we have started is a tray of mangoes over Xmas.

old tradition (in UK) was port, but that is not the same in hot Xmas weather.

Fruit & Veggie are a lot more seasonnal (ie out of season & price goes up steeply, if available), as less are imported. Prime example 2 yrs ago bananas reached an outrages $16per kg (after cyclone hit production in Qld), wher now they are around $3 or less per kg.

Some things go under different names (UK & Oz shallots different things), eg no satsumas instead extra sweet mandarin variety.

I disagree about the apples and pears, I find the UK ones much nicer but I concur with the kiwi, mandarin and nectarines. white nectarines in season are just so nice.

Seriously, they are yum We saw them in the shop and thought WTH but got some and they had all gone in about 5 minutes flat. I'm not a fruit fan generally but they are good.
