FRIENDS FOR MY 14 YR OLD SON!!!
Hi to everyone that lives near me on gold coast (helensvale)
My son has been here nearly 12 mths and is still finding it difficult to get out and about as none of his school pals can be bothered to go out anywhere, they are lazy and just sit at their computers.
my son is a quiet lad, but would love to have more friends that do more than just sit in their rooms!!!!
i knew it would be difficult for him to settle and it upsets me to think he is not happy here.
so anyone out there who can help????
cheers

Have you considered some of the many soccer/rugby/afl/surf clubs in your area? Not only do they get excercise, but mixing with other kids soon develop friendships.

It is hard for them to meet people. My son is 12 and finds the same prob that the Ozy kids don't socialise quite as much as what he was used to in the UK. That said I don't know if it is an age thing as they have a lot of homework in his year. I know there is a few years diff but if you fancy meeting up let me know. I used to come on here years ago but only pop in every now and again these days. Had to rejoin couldn't remember login or password lol. BTW we live in Arundel so only a few mins from you x

Hi Fryer
Our 14yo son also struggled to settle for around a year, but we found a thing called the Australian Acting Academy.
We are just outside Robina, and they closed the local class here at Christmas so now he can only go to the weekend workshops and school holiday residential camps, but he absolutely loves it.
There are still classes in and around Brisbane if you are prepared to travel 1 evening each week
Although it's aimed at wannabe actors, the classes are fun and help with overall self-esteem, self-presentation etc etc and actively look at positivity - there's no pass or fail, no report card, just heaps of fun with other like-minded kids - and that's just the staff
Good luck, keep smiling, kids are stronger than we give them credit for, it will all come good in the end
